Today we’d like to introduce you to Calais Renee.
Calais, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was a little girl, I always dreamed of having my own business and helping others. My sister and I loved the idea of being our own bosses, so we were the ones in the neighborhood running lemonade stands, helping people walk their dogs, shovel their driveway, and I even had a homemade candy business for a time. Fast forward to 2016 where I am working two jobs, in school full time and busier than ever, yet feeling so unfulfilled. I knew I had to make a change but didn’t know where to start. I felt so lost. Then, the Universe brought an opportunity into my life that couldn’t have been more perfect. I randomly found out about this fitness coaching thing, and almost immediately had that gut feeling when you know something is meant to be. I became a fitness coach in May of 2016, and I haven’t looked back since.
My goal when I started my business wasn’t focused primarily on making more money, I just really wanted my time back. I believe that life is meant to be lived at the fullest, and I knew that working long hours would not get me that sense of fulfillment. I was blessed to be able to travel growing up, and that quickly became a passion of mine and one of the biggest motivations for me to become the entrepreneur that I am today. I grew up in the beautiful state of Alaska, had the chance to live in Australia, Hawaii, Texas, New York, Washington, and now in California. I knew that I needed a lifestyle that allowed me the freedom to be wherever I wanted, so I put in the hard work for the first two years to build up my brand and business, and now I truly can say I am living my dream life. I’m currently pursuing my Master’s Degree in Business and running my coaching business while traveling to my heart’s content. The hard work doesn’t stop here, but I’m finally able to enjoy the time I have by spending it how I want to.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course, there have been challenges along the way, that’s half the fun! I used to be so intimidated by obstacles, but now I see them as a chance to learn and grow. I went through a lot of training when I started my business, and I learned to just feel the fear and do it anyway. There have been so many times I had to get outside of my comfort zone in order to grow my business, and instead of being afraid and avoiding it, I embraced the uncomfortable feeling and faced the challenge head-on. There were long days of working my business, working my other jobs, and keeping up with my school work, but I made it happen.
Some things that really helped me in times of struggle and doubt were reading books of personal development (You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero is a great one to start with), taking time to meditate, and writing down my vision and goals. These things helped me realize that my anxious and doubtful thoughts were not my true reality, and I could replace them with productive feelings like gratitude and happiness.
If you’re reading this and have started your own journey of growth, just know that you create your own reality. Take some time to get crystal clear on what you want out of life, and then realize it’s not going to be easy, but it is going to be so worth it. You are the only person responsible for where you are today, and you are the only person who can get you to where you want to be. Once I came to know that freeing truth, I started making positive changes to create the life of my dreams.
Please tell us about your work.
As a fitness coach and influencer, I help women reach not only physical goals but mental goals as well. I focus on the importance of self-care, meditation, and I encourage my clients to put themselves first when it comes to their health and wellbeing. I connect each of my clients to their own personalized program and meal plan, then I add them to our private, online Fit Club where we log our workouts, shakes, meals, and keep track of our progress. We all know that getting fit isn’t easy, especially on your own, so I designed my Fit Club to be a place where women can feel supported, loved, and inspired to complete their program with other like-minded ladies. I also like to give out prizes and offer 1-1 coaching to those who want more in-depth mentoring. Once you sign up with me as your coach, I make it my priority to help you not only reach your goals but also enjoy the process along the way.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Embrace the change that is happening, and know that you can conquer anything. Start with training your mind with meditation, because it will help you in realizing the power your thoughts have on your reality. Get really clear on where you want to be in five years, and create a vision board to remind yourself of what your dream life looks like. There will be times you will want to give up but don’t. Your future self is worth the hard work and you will thank yourself later if you just put in the effort now. You got this.
