Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Nicole Spring of Los Angeles

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Nicole Spring. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I feel like intelligence and energy ebbs and flows, so I’m going to say integrity is most important!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m the executive director of the Los Angeles Dance Film Festival. I’m going into my ninth year organizing the film festival, and it feels really surreal. I’ve definitely grown into it and continue to learn more every year, especially after becoming a non-profit.

It makes me really happy that we get to provide a space for dance films to be seen and celebrated. The films are specifically created by merging choreography and cinematography. It’s a beautiful combination of art forms!

I hope you’ll join us at the film festival this Summer!

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Filling space with jumps as a dancer made me feel really powerful. I wish that I hadn’t taken that ability for granted!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Time is in your favor.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
Constant productivity is the only way to success. That mindset has led me to burnout over and over again.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
Being outdoors, moving my body, daydreaming, and creating.
