Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Grace Heth of Silverlake

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Grace Heth. Check out our conversation below.

Grace, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: When was the last time you felt true joy?
Every day! I have a one year old son and he brings me so much happiness. He has truly made my life technicolor. When you’re with a toddler, you have to be so present. If you blink, they can get into something. Seeing the world through his eyes is definitely the best/ most joyful thing to ever happen to me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! My name is Grace and I am an artist. I spent many years as a shoe designer before deciding to be a full time painter. I currently work as an abstract oil painter in Los Angeles. I make large scale abstract oil paintings with an emphasis on color. I have a photographic color memory, so color is kinda my thing. I am currently working on a new collection of large scale super colorful pieces that will launch in November!

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My dad! My dad is a brilliant business man. Although he worked an extreme amount throughout my life, he was always very present/ around. He made many deals on the phone between driving me to swim practice, dance rehearsals, etc. I learned how to negotiate from the back seat of his sedan at a VERY young age. He has taught me everything I know about work ethic, deal making, business ownership, leadership and everything between.

When did you last change your mind about something important?
Haha. I change my mind all the time. I like to think of it as being very open minded, adaptable, and flexible. It is one of my strengths. Just recently, I made the decision to move my family from New York to LA. I used to say I would NEVER leave New York. I have learned with age that it’s very healthy to change your mind. I am always doing the best I can with the information I have. Nothing is permanent, and I think it’s very healthy to change courses.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, What you see is very much what you get with me. I am HORRIBLE at hiding my feelings 🙂

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
When I am painting in my studio, listening to music, I get completely lost in it. It is truly the best feeling. I lose track of time, and tune out the world. It is very meditative and truly peaceful for me.
