Kartar Diamond on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Kartar Diamond and have shared our conversation below.

Kartar, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
Even with all the exposure to Feng Shui in the Western world over the last few decades, I think that most people still assume that Feng Shui is more of a belief system or a Chinese cultural practice, rather than an Earth science, based on many sound principles that everyone can relate to, and which everyone is affected by.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I have been a classically trained Feng Shui consultant since the early 1990’s, helping people discover how much their home or work environment influences them, especially in non-obvious ways. My company, Feng Shui Solutions, is a full-service consultancy, as I assist people in locating properties, developing them, or make adjustments to existing properties. The goal is to optimize these spaces to support a person’s health, well-being, creative output, and financial potential. Engaging with people remotely, world-wide, is something I never dreamed of in the very beginning, before the Internet was accessible and so integrated in all our lives.

I began studying Feng Shui, just out of curiosity and before it became popular, but now thirty years later I’d like to take credit for being one of the first non-Asians to share this ancient wisdom openly with others, including thousands of clients and students. As a writer, it has been very fulfilling for me to publish books, ebooks, and other learning tools, including many case studies.

Currently, I am re-reading dozens of other Feng Shui authors’ books in my library and writing lengthy reviews for each, as another way to teach and address the persistent misconceptions and controversies within my field. I’ve done this before, where I set myself up for year-long projects, with the results usually being very gratifying and unexpected benefits and outcomes.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I’ve had many moments and transitional periods where I’ve had profound realizations about other people and what lessons I was meant to learn from them. But going way back to when I was 14 years old and practicing yoga and meditation, I had my first out-of-body experience. My consciousness just popped out of my body while relaxing and zoomed up to the ceiling where I saw myself below.

People who have had those experiences know for sure that they are not dreaming, such as with near death experiences. This kind of experience, where you realize that you HAVE a body, but that you are NOT just a body, will have a lasting influence in how one sees the world.

When you have an experience of consciousness outside the body, then you know there is no death, or at least no finality to life, and that you will just re-emerge in another form. And this is also why I am very open-minded to spiritual things, and metaphysical arts, Feng Shui included.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
I have several themes running in my current life and I do hope that I have learned from those “life themes” so that I won’t repeat them in the next life. One theme has involved recognizing that I have been ensnared by several narcissists, whether it was a family member or former spiritual teacher, or others close to me in the past. There are “garden variety” narcissists who often make themselves known early on, but the covert narcissist and the spiritual charlatan–those folks have inflicted the deepest wounds, as you can imagine. More than gas-lighting, there is a deeper level of betrayal when it comes from the pseudo-spiritual types.

I have healed from those wounds because of my natural well of empathy. I’ve done a fair amount of introspection and if you don’t forgive those people, then they just continue to drain your life force energy. Any good therapist will tell you that you can’t change a narcissist and that the best course of action is to run in the opposite direction. But then you still need to reflect on what happened and why, so that you don’t attract those sociopaths to you again.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
Casting a wide net, I actually admire whistleblowers. Not just one person, but all of those who step forward to tell the truth, even as others ridicule them or try to silence them. A real whistle blower will put their physical and financial security at risk, their reputation and their standing in society. I admire these people as they are so brave and I’m so grateful there are a few out there. They re-confirm that humanity still has a chance.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
In early adulthood, I wanted to be a professional lyricist, I wrote hundreds of songs and even played a little bass guitar. I wrote a song as a teen called “Life Is a Circle (Yin Yang),” about 10 years before I ever heard of Feng Shui.

Early on in my Feng Shui career, I tossed the coins for an I-Ching divination reading, asking the oracle if I had chosen the right path to take. The hexagram I got was #55- Feng. A few years later, I was receiving an astrology reading from a woman who wasn’t aware of what I did for a living. She asked me if I was a real estate agent. I laughed and asked why. She said because she just saw me traveling from one property to the next. On an on-going basis, God shares with me many inside jokes which confirm absolutely that I am doing what I was born to do.
