Today we’d like to introduce you to Zack King.
Hi Zack, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Back in 2018, I graduated college with a business degree ready to work a 9-5 behind a cubicle for the rest of my life. I don’t know what happened exactly, but one day (a few months into my job), I realized this wasn’t who I was meant to be. I quit my day job and decided to pursue my true passion; music. Ever since that defining moment, I haven’t looked back. Writing about my personal experiences, mental health, and relationships were where I found true happiness and clarity. Not only in writing but performing and relating with my fans on a personal level. I love being able to find common stories and experiences with my fans, to create a bond, and not only that, help them with their mental health struggles. That’s the best part about music – building relationships and helping others. Fame has never mattered to me but finding ways to help others be the best (and happiest) versions of themselves.
Looking forward, I’ve decided to change the direction of my music career. Originally doing alternative rock music, I’ve now decided to dive into the pop-punk world. I always listened to bands like Blink 182 and All Time Low growing up, and recently, have realized it’s where I want to be with my music career.
September 7th can’t come soon enough. That’s the date I’ll be releasing my brand new pop punk song “What’s on your Mind?” This song is about being led on by someone you truly care about, not knowing where it all went wrong. This rebirth into pop-punk music has me excited for what’s to come next with Zack King.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
At every turn in my music career, there have been struggles. Some external, but mostly internal. Just like life, you have to roll with the punches and play the hand you’ve been dealt.
It wasn’t until 3 or 4 months ago when I realized what kind of music I want to create. That has always been an internal challenge I’ve dealt with. Not saying an artist should stay in one genre, but for me, that sense of consistency when creating music is something I’ve always strived for.
Currently listening to artists like MGK and The Band CAMINO, I’ve tried to blend my two favorite artists to create something unique, but with all the blends of the music, I’m loving right now, with the hope of making my imprint on the pop-punk scene/world.
Another internal struggle I’ve dealt with my whole life is anxiety and depression. Never feeling good enough and talking down on myself have always been major struggles in my life and throughout my music career. Even though I’ve battled mental health every day of my life, I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. After committing to a life in music, it’s helped me realize my other purpose: helping those with mental health.
Over the last three years, I’ve created a private music community of dedicated superfans, where we don’t only listen to music, we talk about mental health and share our struggles and stories with each other. I never expected music to be a great vehicle for helping others. Creating this community has been one of the most meaningful things that ever happened in my career and my life.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve been playing gigs consistently for the last three years, mostly around the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area. Recently, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my music career, and now happy to announce I’m able to travel for gigs, concerts, private events, and house parties! I offer a very intimate experience with a range of music. Songs that will get you dancing, crying, and screaming your heart out.
My plan is to go on tour next summer once I’ve released my new project, but in the time being, I’m offering concerts where I’ll play my original music! To book your own event, you can contact me on my website or email [email protected].
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Perseverance & having faith in myself. Always trusting the process and believing in my work ethic and passion. There have been a few times where it would’ve been easy to give up, but luckily, my passion for creating music has helped me keep going.
