Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Vincoli-Miyamoto.
Hi Samantha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As so many stories go, it started because of my mom! More specifically, I was in an interim period between college and graduate school, and I was working for her at the time. She encouraged me to become a notary, and I am glad to report that I followed her advice. Being a notary has been a fulfilling secondary career path. To be candid, I have always cringed at the “multi-hyphenate” term . Over the last 10+ years, I have worked in the pharmaceutical, transportation, entertainment, energy, circular economy, and public health fields in multiple roles, the most recent ones being in the software/web and theater spaces. Throughout all those interdisciplinary experiences, my notarial career has always had a grounding effect that I cherish.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say the road to being a notary has been thankfully smooth overall. If I had to choose, one of the challenges I faced during my path was a timing-related issue for even smoother commission renewal. Commissions are valid for four (4) years, and those years can definitely come up pretty quickly! Paying attention to very specific dates is essential.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m a travelling / traveling / mobile notary public who has been serving the Los Angeles County area for over 10+ years. As a mobile notary, I can travel to your location and notarize for you in the convenience of your home, workplace, or a third area. I do signings by appointment only, and I’m bilingual in Spanish (not Japanese at this time, despite the last name)! Si, definitivamente podemos hablar en castellano o español. Documents I’ve notarized include (and are not limited to): Affidavits, deeds, trusts, powers of attorney, vital records applications, travel authorization letters, and more. As additional services, I am also an ordained minister (through Universal Life Church) and am working towards providing apostille-related services. What I’m most proud of is the commitment to professionalism, respect, integrity and shared community with clients (and potential clients). The best part of this job is the people and hearing their own stories at key moments while being part of their journey throughout life. Last but not least.. the phrase “do a notary” may not mean what you think it means!
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If you’re beginning the notary journey, I’d say getting connected with the National Notary Association (NNA) is one of the best decisions ever! They’ve addressed some of my key questions during crucial moments, and their classes and educational materials are something I deeply value. The biggest thing I wish I knew when I was starting was the importance of networking with other notaries in the area, especially during overflow moments. It’s something I’m getting better at, slowly!
