Inspiring Conversations with Maggie Jenson of Magnify Progressive Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Jenson.

Hi Maggie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I founded Magnify Progressive Wellness in 2020 as a one-stop-shop to wellness with an emphasis on mental health. My mission started from what I learned at a very young age as an Child of an Alcoholic (CoA) and it was simple: to help billions of people around the world learn to Think Different to Drink Different or Never Again.

My mother’s alcohol addiction began when I was five years of age and didn’t end until she passed away a week before Mother’s Day 2022 from alcohol-related health issues. Like many CoAs, I grew up to become an alcoholic myself; like many other CoAs, my brother never even made it that far. He committed suicide when he was 14 and I was 12, which was the catalyst that drove me to cope with pain the same way my mother had modeled for me: drinking to escape.

For almost 16 years, I struggled with dangerous, addictive binge-drinking behavior and I was certain that my life would end up looking a lot like my mom’s… “Addiction is a permanent disease, right?!” (At least that’s what THEY tell us…)

In January of 2020, I had enough. I set out on a Dry January challenge, and I did pretty well actually. I had a few slip-ups towards the end of the month, but I was able to move on without shame or guilt (NOT something AA ever taught me!) and told myself that I would continue. I did well through the first weeks of February but then decided I’d let myself have a few at a wedding. This was February 15- and let’s just say that was the last time Dangerous Party Girl Maggie was ever seen… I made a fool out of myself in front of my husband and his friends… I woke up on February 16, ready to never again feel the shame and embarrassment of “hangxiety”. Imagine knowing you have to apologize sincerely for a bunch of stuff you don’t remember doing, and when you have to hear about it in order to apologize for it, you wish you could crawl out of your own skin.

I decided, “This time, I will truly DO DIFFERENT!” I had a conversation with myself that I would do the exact opposite of what AA told me and my mom to do, which was just focused on sobriety. Instead, I focused on all the things I had been putting off in order to make time for my drinking and hangovers.

I began lifting weights and tracking my nutrition. These things kept me focused forward and helped boost my confidence! These little wins each and every day allowed me to see just how powerful and in control I really was. The timing was impeccable because by the time “the world shut down” in March 2020, I was already on a path to success.

Now, I did have to purge my social media; if you recall back to those initial days of quarantine, our social media feeds were full of people posting about their 10 am mimosas during Zoom meetings… I had to keep myself busy with things that I truly enjoyed and felt excited about.

Soon, something clicked inside of me that I was finally ready to invest in the coursework that would help me launch a wellness concept I had been dreaming about since my early 20s… A wellness concept devoted to people struggling with depression, anxiety, self-sabotage, and even addiction that would help them build and boost their self-image, versus always struggle with self-loathing and defeatism.

I enrolled in four different health, fitness, and nutrition courses straight-away and continued to invest quarterly in a new form of Continuing Education, from Business and Marketing Courses to Compassionate Inquiry Trauma Therapy Courses, I wanted to arm myself with any education that would help me help clients that were struggling the way I had, my mother had, or my brother had.

I’ve worked diligently to create a revolutionary Alternative Recovery approach titled The Magnify Method. Through focusing forward on “building a health consciousness” and a strong and powerful self-image with The Magnify Method, clients that had “tried it all” to reach sobriety or healthy moderation finally found success and put their dark past behind them.

Our mantra is “Starve the Darkness and Feed the Light”, because just like a magnifying glass, our mental focus will feed energy to what we are thinking about, and what we give energy to will grow.

Today, I offer one-on-one Magnify Mentorship programs as well as a Self-Paced Membership & Community Course. I’ve also launched the Magnify Maggie YouTube Channel for anyone looking for in-depth educational lessons on mindset, physical fitness, nutrition, and attitude for successful and powerful recovery.

We do not believe that “addiction is a permanent disease” nor do we believe that one must live in recovery forever.

Magnify Members now live healthy, happy, recovered lives were there focused forward forever!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were many obstacles along the way, but what I’ve learned is that obstacles are only obstacles if we perceive them as such. Before I created my own path-to-power and found full mental recovery, I perceived everything as a challenge, which led me to need to escape with alcohol.

Since then, I’ve found much success in my company because I do not allow struggles to stop me; I just simply think of these perceived hurdles as “tests” that will make sense in the future.

If I had to narrow down one of the biggest struggles, though, I would say it is in the marketing to find people in need of my services. People are very private and oftentimes embarrassed about needing this type of help, so I am always mentally stretching myself to find new ways to make an impact, even if it is through free resources so they can get some type of help.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My mentorship programs and self-paced online course teach mindset, habit, and lifestyle shifts that were originally developed and proven by experts like Neville Goddard, Earl Nightingale, Maxwell Maltz, and Dr. Gabor Mate. In combination with these teachings, I operate as an always-on daily coach to encourage and provide accountability to implementing positive mindset shifts and actionable habits. I offer my advisable input in every opportunity so my clients can feel confident and supported, not only in control of their drinking but empowered to achieve any goal that they have in life.

Addiction and problematic drinking are mental health issues that can be cured, and my clients and I are proof.

My clients are generally high achievers in most areas of life, including in hiding their drinking. They’ve tried many approaches to quitting or cutting back and the most common models of recovery have not met their needs. AA can feel re-triggering or disempowering, while therapy feels impersonal and less actionable. So they’re frustrated with current recovery models and looking for alternatives, more guidance and accountability.

My goal isn’t necessarily to help clients “go sober”. My goal is to help them build an identity where alcohol is irrelevant.

Instead of relating everything to drinking, Magnify Clients & Alumni focus on their next exciting career move, flourishing relationships and fitness gains while savoring their peace of mind and peace of life. Before they know it, they’ve gone an entire day, week, or month without thinking of alcohol.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
When I widdle it down to what matters most to me, it’s ultimately making a positive impact in the lives of the children of parents struggling with addictive drinking behavior. Because most CoAs that make it to adulthood find themselves becoming alcoholics or marrying one, I am on a personal mission to break the cycle while also decreasing the youth suicide rates in homes where addiction may have been present otherwise.

In my opinion, helping the parents will help the children, which will help the next generation(s) forever.
