Today we’d like to introduce you to Dezy Jackson Hughes.

Dezy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been around makeup my whole life, honestly I never liked it until I became an adult! I come from a host of beautiful, classy black women that loved beauty, from my great-grandmother, grandmother, mother and my aunts; it’s like it was meant to be in our DNA. My mother loved everything beauty, and I watched her for years wear it every day, but I couldn’t do it like her. One day I got my makeup done for my birthday, and I loved the way I looked in it! I knew I could do it on my own with consistent practice, and after a while, people started asking me to do theirs, and I loved doing other’s makeup more than doing my own! I love how people feel afterward! I love to see the extra attitude or confidence that comes after seeing the complete look. I’ve been doing makeup for about five years now, and three of them being professional.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Lord no!!!!!! The obstacles and challenges have been rough! There have been some days of self-doubt, other days of wondering when I was going to reach my destination of where I wanted to be! But with the right support system and a whole lot of prayer, I finally began to walk into the realization of who I was as an artist. I began to acknowledge the gifts I have been given, and I always remember this is MY journey that can’t compare to anyone else’s! I’m on the road God has for me, and whatever he has in store, I will soon achieve with prayer and patience!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My name is Dezy Jackson Hughes, and I am the owner of Classy Face by Dezy! I am a businesswoman who’s also an accomplished professional makeup artist. While I have completed many projects on sets of commercials, television specials, and movies, my absolute favorite engagements of all time to accept are bridal glam/wedding glam engagements. I love being involved in my client’s special day and being more than just their artist! What I’m most proud of since moving to Atlanta are the goals I’ve set for my business ventures I’m currently accomplishing, whether it seems small or substantial. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been so worth it! I never compare myself to other artists simply because I feel every artist is unique and great in their own right. I believe in making sure my clients know, “I’m not making you beautiful…I’m enhancing the beauty you already have.” I believe beauty starts before the stroke of the brush.
