Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Allen.
Hi Dave, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
“I got my start in hospitality while I was in college, bartending back home in New Jersey. When I moved to New York City to pursue music, modeling, and acting, bartending naturally came with me — and working with the Tao Group at LAVO really pulled me in. The energy, the pace, the people — it was nonstop and addictive in the best way.
When I later relocated to Los Angeles, I continued honing my craft at spots like The District and STK before taking the leap into ownership. Alongside my business partner, I opened my first bar — a jazz lounge called The Parker Room on Vine Street in Hollywood. As a music producer and recording artist, I have always wanted to have a place that was an artistic shrine. The name Hyperion Social came from wanting to build community with roots in hospitality.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Hyperion Social is the first place I’ve owned completely on my own, and it’s been one of the most rewarding learning experiences of my career. Like any new business, it comes with real challenges — it’s a true 24/7 commitment. The emails, the texts, the decisions never stop, and at the end of the day, the responsibility lands with you.
With the hospitality industry in Los Angeles still finding its footing post-pandemic, consistency from week to week and month to month has been the biggest hurdle. That said, we’re steadily growing, and every small win feels earned. I’m still hands-on in every aspect, but that closeness has allowed me to understand the business at a deeper level. Hospitality is always evolving, and success comes from staying flexible, adapting quickly, and continuing to move forward — and that’s exactly where we’re headed.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Hyperion Social?
Hyperion Social is designed to evolve with the day. We’re known for being a laid-back, welcoming spot during happy hour where people can actually relax, connect, and enjoy great drinks — and then seamlessly turning into a high-energy nightlife destination as the night goes on. On weekends especially, DJs take over and the room shifts into a vibrant, upbeat atmosphere that feels more like a party than a traditional bar.
What sets Hyperion Social apart is that versatility. We’re not trying to be one thing all the time. We specialize in creating a space that works just as well for an after-work drink as it does for a late-night crowd looking for energy, music, and a great vibe. The programming, the music, and the overall flow of the space are all intentional, so the experience feels natural, not forced.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the community we’re building. Hyperion Social attracts a diverse crowd — locals, creatives, industry people, and first-timers — and everyone feels like they belong. It’s a place where DJs can showcase their sound, guests can let loose, and the energy of the room feeds itself.
It’s really not just about drinks — it’s about atmosphere, music, and connection. Whether you’re stopping in for a casual happy hour or coming out for a full night of high-energy music and dancing, the goal is always the same: to create an experience people want to come back to.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you can’t do everything on your own. Letting people help you — and asking for help when you need it — is essential. Surrounding yourself with like-minded people who support your vision and goals makes all the difference. Burnout can come quickly if you try to carry everything yourself, and that’s not just tough personally — it can be detrimental to the business. Building the right support system is just as important as building the brand.
