Inspiring Conversations with Daniel Behroozan of Dermatology Institute of Southern California

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Behroozan.

Hi Daniel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a double board certified Dermatologist, and grew up in LA. I attended local public schools and graduated from Beverly Hills High School. I attended UCLA for Undergraduate and Medical School and went on to received Dermatology training and fellowship training at Cedars Sinai, King-Harbor UCLA Medical Centers, and Method Hospital in Houston before coming back to LA and joining the full time faculty at UCLA in Dermatology.

In 2006, I opened my private practice with offices in Beverly Hills and Santa Monica. My goal continues and has always been to offer the highest level of care in Dermatology while offering the most state of the art treatments in general, cosmetic, and surgical dermatology.

Having lived in Los Angeles for 45 years, it is so rewarding to be able to give back to my community at such a high level in my field. I am humbled to have the opportunity to do so and we are just getting started!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had amazing training, and I’m lucky to be able to say that. We all stand on the shoulders of giants and am I grateful to all the teachers and professors I have had throughout the course of my training and career that have allowed me to practice and now also teach at such a high level (I am also an assistant clinical professor of Dermatology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA).

So has it always been a smooth road? Of course not! Running a medical practice and trying to stay state of the art is a full time job, but I love what I do and work does not feel like work to me! I am blessed to practice an art that I love more than anything else in the world. I look forward and enjoy coming to work each and every single day.

Dr. Daniel Behroozan is a top medical and cosmetic Los Angeles dermatologist and laser surgeon. As a highly gifted student, Dr. Behroozan graduated from high school at the age of sixteen, after which he started his undergraduate education at UCLA.

During his undergraduate studies at UCLA he was a twelve-time recipient of the Dean’s Honor Roll Award. In addition, he received the National Honor Roll Award, Golden Key National Honor Award, and the Phi Sigma National Biology Honor Award. Dr. Behroozan graduated summa cum laude from UCLA with a BS in neuroscience and was awarded college honors at graduation for exemplary academic accomplishments. Moreover, he received the coveted Chancellor’s Service Award for his commitment to community service.

Dr. Behroozan completed medical school at UCLA, where he was awarded the prestigious Lazar Merit Scholarship and the American College of Physicians Preceptorship Scholarship. Throughout his medical education, his academic accomplishments led to being awarded the Western Student Medical Research Committee Award, and the APSIH Award of Excellence in Medical Education. His medical school studies culminated with a voluntary senior medical student thesis in Dermatology.

Dr. Behroozan then went on to complete an internship in internal medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, followed by residency training in dermatology at the Los Angeles County/Drew and Harbor-UCLA Medical Centers, where he was chief resident. Following his residency, Dr. Behroozan completed a one year advanced fellowship in Mohs micrographic skin cancer surgery, dermatologic surgery, and cosmetic dermatology at the Methodist Hospital of the Baylor University School of Medicine in Houston, Texas under the direction of Leonard Goldberg, MD, FRCP, an international leader in Mohs micrographic surgery and dermatologic surgery. This is a coveted and competitive fellowship position that is awarded to a single dermatology resident each year based on academic and professional achievement. Dr. Behroozan is also certified by the American College of Mohs Surgery.

Through continued dedication, training and mastery of his craft, Los Angeles dermatologist Dr. Daniel Behroozan provides comprehensive, high quality dermatological services to clients in Santa Monica and Beverly-Hills.

Following his residency and fellowship, Dr. Behroozan was recruited to join the full time faculty in the Division of Dermatology at UCLA, an academic position consisting of clinical responsibilities and academic training of residents and students. At UCLA, he was head of Dermatologic Surgery at the Santa Monica-UCLA Dermatology center, and currently serves on the volunteer faculy.

He has lectured extensively and served as an instructor at numerous professional societies including the American Academy of Dermatology, American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery, American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, International Society of Cosmetic and Laser Surgeons, Houston Dermatologic Society, Pacific Dermatologic Association, and the Los Angeles Metropolitan Dermatologic Society.

Dr. Behroozan has been voted one of America’s Top Dermatologists by the Consumer Research Council of America for five years in a row and was named numrous times to both the Southern California Super Doctors® as well as Castle-Connolly.
