Inspiring Conversations with Anastasia Kornilova of StoryCurrent Marketing Agency

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anastasia Kornilova.

Hi Anastasia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My path has always been about weaving together creativity, purpose, and innovation. I started out studying International Relations, and along the way became deeply passionate about sustainability and environmental impact. That led me to pursue graduate studies in Environmental Management and Environmental Economics while working as a sustainability consultant at KPMG.

When I came to Los Angeles to study Social Entrepreneurship at USC, everything shifted. I immersed myself in the social impact space, volunteered with nonprofits, and joined an EV charging startup that later became Shell Recharge Solutions. That role sparked my career in cleantech marketing and showed me how storytelling could accelerate adoption of innovative solutions.

From there, I continued to grow in marketing roles — most recently at a leading battery energy storage company — before launching my own agency, StoryCurrent, where we help cleantech and innovation-driven brands transform complex ideas into clear, compelling stories.

Alongside this, I also built a personal path as a yoga and meditation teacher and as a runaway model. These practices give me balance and allow me to express creativity in different ways. Today, I’m proud to blend all of these experiences — sustainability, marketing, wellness, and creativity — into a life and career that feel authentic to who I am.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs and creatives, I’ve had to navigate uncertainty, self-doubt, and the challenge of starting over more than once. Moving to a new country, from Russia to the US eight years ago, meant rebuilding my network and proving myself in a completely different environment. I also faced the challenge of wearing many hats — balancing corporate work, starting my own agency, and nurturing my creative pursuits like yoga and modeling.

Another struggle was learning to embrace my multidimensional path instead of trying to “fit into a box.” For a long time, I worried people might see my journey as scattered. Over time, I realized it’s actually my strength. Having experience across sustainability, marketing, wellness, and creative industries gives me a unique lens and allows me to connect with very different audiences.

There were also practical struggles — long hours, the uncertainty of entrepreneurship, and the pressure of launching something new. But each challenge pushed me to grow, stay resilient, and trust that the pieces would come together. And they have.

We’ve been impressed with StoryCurrent Marketing Agency, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m the founder of StoryCurrent Marketing Agency, where we specialize in helping cleantech, renewable energy, and innovation-driven companies translate complex ideas into clear, compelling stories. Our work spans go-to-market strategy, content marketing, executive thought leadership on LinkedIn, and demand generation campaigns. In short: we help visionary companies grow by making their message resonate.

What sets us apart is the blend of deep industry expertise and creative storytelling. I’ve worked inside the sustainability and cleantech space for years, so I understand the technical side — but I also know how to bring it to life through content, visuals, and strategy that actually connect with people. We combine the analytical with the human, which is so important in industries where the products are complex and the impact is huge.

I’m most proud of building a brand that feels authentic and values-driven. StoryCurrent was born from the belief that good marketing isn’t just about selling — it’s about creating trust, educating audiences, and accelerating positive change. Our clients know that we’re not just here to “run campaigns,” we’re here to help them shape their narrative in a way that inspires action.

For readers who might be curious: we offer strategy development, content creation, social media marketing, PR support, and executive brand building. But more than the services, it’s the mission that drives us — helping innovative companies make the leap from idea to impact.

In addition to leading StoryCurrent, I’m also a certified yoga and meditation teacher. I offer group classes, workshops, and community events that focus on movement, mindfulness, and holistic well-being. Teaching allows me to share practices that bring balance and clarity, and it complements my work in marketing by reminding me that creativity and purpose grow best when we are grounded and connected.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is the first time I played the cello in front of the whole town at a small community concert. I remember the late-afternoon light pouring through the windows, the nervous flutter in my stomach, and then — as I drew the bow — everything settling into a calm focus. Hearing the music fill the room, seeing my parents’ faces in the audience, and feeling that hush-then-applause made me understand how powerful a single moment of expression can be. It was the first time I felt how creativity could connect people — and that feeling has followed me through every chapter since.
