Inspiring Conversations with Dominique Quarles of AlphaBabe Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Quarles.

Dominique, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am first a mother of two amazing little girls and second an educator. My role is to educate women through my knowledge and experiences of pregnancy and postpartum. There were many areas during both my pregnancies that I was not educated on many topics that come about during postpartum, and so my passion to learn more about the body and teach other women is what I do. I am a Certified personal trainer, Certified Postpartum/Prenatal Coach, and Certified Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist with education in pelvic floor rehab. I have taken the knowledge I have learned over the many certifications and apply it in teaching and helping women heal their body in each phase they are in. My brand started as Momsbetterliving, an online forum for women to discuss their experiences during pregnancy and postpartum.

It was my way to help with my postpartum depression during the time because I had no one to turn to that understood what I was feeling. I found hope and solace in meeting other women who were experiencing similar things as I. Over the years, it turned into AlphaBabe Fitness because restoring of the mind and body is not just limited to pregnant or postpartum women. It starts before. Corrective the body and the mind begins now even before you decide to have a child. I have witnessed many of my clients who do not have kids not know how to connect with their body through correct breathing or exercise by doing the correct movements. So, teaching begins now.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The challenges I faced early on was more so my own- I did not believe in myself. I did not believe my skillset or the education I had gained the past several years. It took me hearing from my clients how great I was and how great my work was working with them that I started to believe in myself. In today’s society social media also prevents many especially women from going after their goals and passions because we see some popular pages excel and have this huge following so we begin doubting ourselves like are we even able to be like them or even better. It got to a point that when I met my partner Campbell, he saw so much more in me then what I saw in myself. He gave me this like boost of fresh air that I begin seeing myself as the IT factor. I saw myself capable and even more so that moms out there who needed to see a confident black woman, I wanted to be that boost for them! So now I approach life with knowing I have this amazing skillset and I am phenomenal at what I do!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

One important element of corrective exercise is connecting with your body through deep breathing. This is important for anyone to understand and grasp. Without the proper function of your core, pelvic floor, and diaphragm your body will not move and stimulate balance the way it needs for strength. So teaching my clients how to breathe into their system (core, diaphragm, pelvic floor) is beneficial in many elements of healing painful or uncomfortable areas of the body. I am a certified personal trainer, postpartum corrective exercise specialist, and pain-free performance specialist, so I take all that I know and I work with clients who are seeking overall balance, strength, and rehabilitation of the postpartum body. I am different because I take a holistic approach- I believe that functionality is most important. Anyone can have a flat stomach, but can you move with function without causing injury?! That is what I know and understand and teach my clients.

What matters most to you? Why?
Being authentic. I am a mother yes but I am also a woman who deals with a lot but being real for my followers and my clients is what I believe in. People relate to those who they see similarities. My story, my journey, is authentic. I do not sugarcoat or hide nothing. I am where I am today because my seasons were rough, but I did not let them define me. I cry just like any other mother dealing with crap, but I wipe my tears and I show people that I can keep going forward even when life gets rough! It’s being authentic that matters most to me.
