Hi Shirlei, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello, I’m Shirlei Silva, a 32 year old certified massage therapist originally from Brazil. I moved to the U.S. in 2019 to chase my American dream. When I got here, my English was pretty rough, and I didn’t know anyone. All I had was my faith in God and the hope that the right people and opportunities would come along.

I started out by volunteering and taking various jobs to get by in Los Angeles, where the cost of living is high. I quickly saw how big the beauty industry is in America. I was drawn to it, but I didn’t want to just focus on looks, I wanted to help people feel healthier and more comfortable in their own skin. Beauty has always been a part of my life growing up in Brazil, so exploring that felt natural. I began studying massage therapy and fell in love with it. I went to massage school in LA, learning about anatomy, nutrition, and advanced techniques, eventually specializing in lymphatic drainage for the face and body because of its health benefits.

After working for others, I decided to start my own business in 2020. I began doing house calls, dreaming of creating a warm, inviting space for my clients. With hard work and a lot of meaningful connections, that dream came true. I found the perfect spot in Beverly Hills, right on Rodeo Drive and I opened Shila Beauty Center. Since 2021, I’ve been proud to help people feel their best with my hands in my own place.

I truly believe that touch can be powerful when used with care and intention to heal. Since the lymphatic system is so important for the immune system, I wanted to learn even more. I took a online course in immunology through Harvard Medical School. That gave me a deeper scientific understanding of what I do every day. The immune system fascinates me, and I want to keep exploring how lymphatic drainage can support healing, prevention, and overall wellness.

All this knowledge, plus hands-on experience, has helped me develop a unique massage method exclusive to Shila Beauty Center that’s very popular among celebrities in Hollywood. I also offer oncology massage for clients going through cancer treatment. I’m always learning new techniques to give the best care I can. I also work with plastic surgeons, providing post-surgical lymphatic drainage for their clients. It helps reduce swelling, bruising, and inflammation, speeding up recovery and healing. Supporting people during tough times like surgery recovery or cancer treatment means a lot to me. I am also very fortunate to work with the biggest celebrities in Hollywood preparing them to red carpets events.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest challenge I faced was the language barrier and arriving in the States without knowing anyone. I’m truly thankful for the wonderful people I met before starting my business, like my PR agent Jen Woodward and Nichelle Hines. From these two incredible and supportive women, I began to build my client base and gain referrals, opening many exciting doors for me.

I feel so privileged to have had the opportunity to prepare actresses and public figures for major events such as the Oscars, Vanity Fair parties, the Met Gala, the Golden Globes, the Emmys, and numerous movie premieres. Working with inspiring and kind clients like Eiza Gonzalez, Ayo Edebiri, Vittoria Ceretti, Cindy Crawford, Michelle Monaghan, Jodie Turner-Smith, Laura Harrier, Kate Beckinsale, Lily James, Amber Valletta, and so many others has truly been a rewarding experience.
