Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Avellanet
Hi Robert, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born in Puerto Rico where I grew up and began my artistic career in 1988 when I was a member of the Latin boy band MENUDO with which I traveled throughout much of the United States and Latin America. In 1991 I left the group to go to college, where I completed a bachelor’s degree in Advertising at the University of Puerto Rico. Since then I have traveled a path full of adventures, ups and downs, risks and personal, professional and spiritual growth that later brought me to Los Angeles. I have recorded 6 albums in total, 2 as a singer-songwriter, in addition to having released singles. After Puerto Rico I lived in Miami, Florida where I also worked as an actor in series, soap operas and theater in Spanish. In 2011 I decided to venture to Los Angeles where I have lived ever since. Since I was a child I dreamed of working in movies in Hollywood, which is what I am truly passionate about. Today, grateful for the growth, I already have a family, a wife, a 10-year-old daughter born in Los Angeles, several films in which I have worked and a skin care company that is growing little by little thanks to a cream called JIBARA.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been easy. Success, like everything in life, has many disappointments until we understand that it is part of the path. It is the failures that give us strength to return with more desire to succeed. It is what really makes us value the triumph when it comes.
At some point my greatest frustration was not having achieved such an impressive professional success as when I was in Menudo, but with time and maturity, I understood that each stage has its importance and its magic, that true success is not only professional, but also personal.
As an adult and a citizen of Los Angeles, I also had to understand that Hollywood can be cruel to those actors who cannot accept rejection. I had to become immune to it. Understand that you cannot take it personally. The important thing is to diversify and persevere.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Viva La Earth?
I founded Viva La Earth, a skin care company to celebrate the riches of the earth and harness them for the well-being of our skin. My first product, JIBARA, is a 100% natural cream based on mango butter infused with seed oils that are proven to be beneficial for the skin. In my homeland, Puerto Rico, JIBARA means farmer. With my product, I wanted to pay tribute to them, who work the land. From the company image, the logo, the design of the label of my product and even in its formula, I have been involved. My vision is that Viva La Earth connects with those who love nature and value its healing power through products without alcohol, without GMO’s and without animals involved. Part of the sales of JIBARA go to the Wayuu Taya foundation that benefits indigenous children in Latin America and my idea is to bring new products to contribute to other foundations for the well-being of our planet.
JIBARA is currently only available at www.jibaraelixir.com and we ship to all of the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Since I was a child, my mother told me to always use a moisturizer for my face. For years I used creams from the market and one day my skin didn’t like them anymore. I started having allergic reactions and redness, so after researching, I decided to invent my own cream. That’s how JIBARA was really born.
