Today we’d like to introduce you to Omena Markarian
Hi Omena, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I went to college for Communications and minored in Advertising. At the time, Digital Media was booming and I was working for a company who was a leader in digital business content successful in digital advertising sales. Simultaneously, I earned my real estate license. Both provided me opportunity to use my schooling in real life and reinforced my knowledge within the advertising space. Before I knew it, I was an assistant Manager at a major sports league company managing the execution of millions of dollars in digital advertising spending a quarter. That kind of experience on my resume opened up doors that led me on an upward trajectory through working for niche digital content spaces to large entertainment corporations.
Covid 2020, changed what career and business looked like for everyone. I’d been fortunate to be in a position where working remote was not a foreign concept. But business had severely slowed and things were so unclear. To diversify myself in business, I decided to take a step into an unfamiliar arena, Logistics. Inspired and encouraged by a friend who was surviving and thriving even with most of the world shut down. I was taught and mentored in Home Appliance Delivery & Installation and became an owner operated Logistics company owner running box trucks with contracts across big box appliance leaders.
I’m still growing and climbing in both spaces as life has gotten back to what is now our new normal. With a. 9-5p as a Director in corporate America, as well as operating my own thriving and successful business I aspire to continue to put my skills to the test and grow within and outside my comforts in business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve definitely not had a smooth road through my professional or personal journey.
I became a mother at 18 and came
from a childhood where I wasn’t always able to be a child. I was a wise beyond years, old soul of a child. Becoming a mother early, I had to maneuver through life with passion, drive and determination to provide a better upbringing and life for my little one. I went to school full time, and worked full time sometimes working multiple jobs in order to make ends meet.
One son, became two.. I had my second son right before receiving my Bachelors. But nothing stopped me from graduating.
With this son, his father passed which was a devastating blow emotionally. That loss, a top coping with losing my grandmother (who was truly my mother figure) broke pieces of my soul. My remaining relatives falling apart, I had no place of safety or re centering.
Then, my oldest son, now 25 was diagnosed with cancer. This sent me into a year of depression. Ive dealt with social embarrassments through a public relationship gone bad. And have had to fight for respect and my place in the logistics space being a woman in a male dominated field. It’s come with many prejudices and disadvantages.
Through all, Ive had to rely on me, my love for my children and my ambition to help fuel me to push through.
As you know, we’re big fans of Omena Alexandria Logistics LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We do Home Appliance Installation and Delivery.
I am a woman operating box trucks, performing home appliance deliveries and installations within a predominately male space.
I am proud to be respected amongst my partners and associates as a fair, experienced professional with a Can-Do and Get It Done attitude.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey, is to take your time! Think things through without overthinking.
