Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennette Toderick.
Hi Jennette, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Real estate has always been part of my family’s DNA. My journey started long before I officially became a broker — growing up in the South Bay watching my father, Ray Phillips, build Union Realty in 1972. I learned early on that this business is about people, relationships, and integrity above all else.
Over the years, I’ve worked my way through nearly every side of the industry — sales, property management, training, and leadership — while preserving the family legacy and modernizing it for today’s market. That path eventually led to the evolution of our company into CENTURY 21 Coastal Properties, a brand that reflects both our South Bay roots and our vision for the future.
Today, as Broker/Owner and 2025 President of the South Bay Association of REALTORS®, I’m proud to lead a company that blends tradition with innovation — combining community connection, advanced technology, and a people-first philosophy to help our agents and clients thrive.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Real estate on the brokerage and ownership side, has long been a male-dominated industry — and being a female broker came with its fair share of challenges. Early on, I often had to prove my credibility twice: once for my knowledge, and again for simply being a woman in the room.
There were moments when I felt underestimated or overlooked, but those experiences pushed me to build something stronger — a company culture that values respect, collaboration, and empowerment for everyone. I’ve learned that adversity can be the best teacher, and that leading with integrity, empathy, and consistency earns a kind of respect that lasts.
Every challenge along the way has shaped who I am as a broker and leader today — and I’m proud to be paving the way for more women to lead in this industry.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about CENTURY 21 Coastal Properties?
At CENTURY 21 Coastal Properties, we’re more than just a real estate brokerage — we’re a third-generation South Bay legacy built on trust, family values, and community connection. Since my father, Ray Phillips, opened our doors in 1972, our mission has remained the same: deliver exceptional real estate experiences through integrity, expertise, and heart.
We specialize in residential sales, property management, and investment guidance throughout the South Bay — from Torrance and Redondo Beach to Hermosa and Palos Verdes. What sets us apart is our blend of old-school relationship building with modern innovation. Our clients get the best of both worlds — personalized service grounded in decades of local knowledge, paired with cutting-edge marketing, technology, and the global power of the CENTURY 21 network, which connects us to buyers and sellers around the world.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how we’ve evolved without losing our roots. Our rebrand to CENTURY 21 Coastal Properties reflects not just a new name, but a renewed vision — one that honors our past while embracing the future. We’re passionate about helping agents and clients thrive, creating a culture of collaboration, growth, and excellence that truly stands out in today’s market.
At the end of the day, what I want readers to know is this: when you work with CENTURY 21 Coastal Properties, you’re not just working with a local brokerage — you’re partnering with a global brand that believes in doing things the right way, every time.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to never give up — no matter how many times someone tells you “no.” Every obstacle, setback, or rejection has fueled me to push harder and prove what’s possible.
In this business — and in life — doors don’t always open easily, especially when you’re breaking barriers or doing things differently. But I’ve learned that “no” often just means “not yet.” It’s an invitation to grow stronger, get more creative, and keep moving forward with even greater purpose.
Perseverance has been my greatest teacher. Every challenge has built resilience, every “no” has sharpened my vision, and every hard-earned “yes” has reminded me why I started — to lead with integrity, to inspire others, and to build something lasting for the next generation.
