Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenifer Kramer.
Hi Jenifer, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am one of the few people I know who actually uses my college degree. After majoring in Marketing at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School, I landed an entry-level job at a mid-sized, NYC ad agency, only to discover it wasn’t the field for me. I “accidentally” fell into licensing when a recruiter sent me on an interview at Hearst Magazines in their Brand Development group. I fell in love with what they described, and the rest, as they say, is history. After five years doing outbound licensing sales, I transitioned to the inbound side, buying and developing toys for Avon Products and then moved across country to Los Angeles to plan Burger King’s Kids’ Meal calendar at their agency of record. After two years and one promotion, I went to a competitive agency, driving new business development and working with most of the major film and home entertainment studios and TV networks. From there, I took a short detour at a digital engagement company where I learned about the digital marketing space. Unfortunately, my position was eliminated after about a year and a half. I decided to launch my own consulting company that very day and have now been running a successful business for almost 13 years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As much as I’d like to say it was, it has never been a smooth road. I have always been very Type A and ambitious, but I prefer not to engage in office politics which hasn’t always worked well in a corporate environment. I also have a somewhat polarizing personality – I tend to be very energetic and eager to get to work making things happen. Most people either love me or hate me. Over the decades, I have come to terms with this and accepted that this is just the way it is. I have no interest in tamping down my personality or muting my desire to succeed in creating beautiful partnerships that resonate with both consumers and fans. Thankfully, I have learned to keep moving forward (like Dory, in Finding Nemo!) and have been extremely fortunate to identify Clients and partners who are like-minded and who appreciate all the efforts I make on their behalf. Over the years, many of these people have become friends, which also helps as they keep me in mind, refer me and help me network when I’m trying to get my foot in the door somewhere new.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Jenerosity Marketing LLC?
I call myself a “matchmaker for brands.” My Clients are generally big brands with small teams that want to focus on partnerships in the food and beverage space. Current Client brands that I represent include BEYBLADE X, Winx Club and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. I have also worked in the past with Crayola, LEGOLAND, Peanuts, Learning Resources toy company and many others. On the partner side, I maintain relationships with most of the big fast-food chains including McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s and Chick-fil-A and some of the largest consumer packaged goods in the world from Kellogg and General Mills to Conagra and Ferrero. I like to think that what sets me apart from others is my authenticity, transparency, generosity (it’s in the name!) and tenacity. I almost always tell it like I see it and I like to underpromise and overdeliver. I won’t sign on with a Client if I don’t think there is an opportunity to close deals for them. I am also extremely persistent and like to find solutions to problems on which others might more easily give up.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Part of what I love most about my job is that it is very creative. I think one of the main reasons I have such passion for it is that I love art, color and design. This was definitely instilled in me at an early age by my mother who often took me to amazing museums and exhibits. One of my absolute favorites was an interactive art exhibit by Red Grooms. If you don’t know anything about him, you should definitely check out his work. This particular exhibit involved large-scale installations that observers could explore, including a fully-loaded, NYC bus that “bounced” when you walked in it, a taxi cab and some of New York’s most iconic landmarks. This exhibit made me a fan for life and showed me the impact that art and creativity could have on me and others.
