Hidden Gems: Meet Honda Shahin of Shahin Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Honda Shahin.

Hi Honda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey began in Alexandria, Egypt, where I first immersed myself in the world of silkscreen printing. With very limited access to resources, I taught myself how to build screens and equipment by hand, driven by a deep love for the craft and a commitment to traditional techniques. At the same time, my brother Marwan Shahin was gaining international recognition for his artwork and album designs for artists like MIA, Sean Kingston, and TroyBoi.

That natural synergy between his design vision and my technical production led us to create Shahin Studios a multidisciplinary creative studio rooted in art, functional design, printing, and more. In 2017, we made the leap to Los Angeles to expand the studio’s reach and refine our services. It wasn’t easy, building from the ground up in a new environment always comes with its challenges, but it pushed us to evolve quickly, both creatively and professionally.

Today, I lead most of the operations at Shahin Studios, overseeing everything from branding and merchandise production to large-scale murals, interior design builds and custom art installations. My brother continues to play a key creative role, especially in visual direction and artwork. Our work now spans from LA to the Middle East, and while our range has expanded, our values remain the same precision, creativity, and a dedication to craftsmanship that sets us apart.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. The journey has had plenty of challenges, but those struggles helped shape everything we’ve built.

Before moving to Los Angeles, we were already building our creative practice back home in Egypt. We were selling art internationally, collaborating on global design projects and working under tough conditions with limited resources. The move to LA wasn’t just a decision, it was a big leap. We left behind something we were already growing, in order to challenge ourselves and expand further.

Starting fresh in a new country came with pressure. We had to navigate a completely different market, rebuild our network and prove ourselves all over again. What made it harder is that we’re not just offering one service, Shahin Studios does everything from design and branding to print production, murals, and interior installations. Wearing so many hats, especially with a small team, pushed us to keep learning and adapting fast.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Shahin Studios is a Los Angeles-based creative studio founded by two brothers from Alexandria, Egypt. We specialize in design, branding experience, silkscreen printing, fine art, merchandise, spatial design, murals, and custom installations, all guided by a strong commitment to craftsmanship and detail.

What sets us apart is our ability to take on projects from concept to execution, combining creative direction, production and hands-on work under one roof. Whether we’re working on a large mural, a merchandise collection or transforming a physical space, we approach every project with the same commitment to quality and originality.

We’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with clients across the US and the Middle East, including Breed Abu Dhabi, presented by Hypebeast, where we produced art, merch, and collectibles. Zouk Nightclub LA, where we handled branding, custom high-end invitations, packaging, production and product design for their launch. Quantum Spa, where we led both interior design and merch, working alongside trusted companies like L’ Esperance Design and the Nirvana Building in Hollywood, where we designed and installed the art installation.

In addition to client work, we continue to develop original fine art editions and currently working on a large silkscreened tile piece as part of a growing direction in ceramics and spatial art. We also design and release our own merch drops and often collaborate with other artists to bring their ideas to life through print and design.

At Shahin Studios, everything we do is driven by precision, creativity and a belief in the value of real craftsmanship.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I’ve learned that the best kind of networking happens through real work and consistency. Most of our connections came from people seeing what we do and reaching out, or from collaborations that naturally grew into long-term relationships.

My advice is to stay active, keep creating, keep showing up and let your work speak for itself. Don’t be afraid to reach out to people you admire, but also focus on building with those around you. Some of the strongest connections come from peers, not just people “above” you. And always stay open to learning, mentors don’t have to be formal. Sometimes the best lessons come from unexpected places.
