Hidden Gems: Meet Diana Rain of UrBrand Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Rain.

Hi Diana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My path into branding started with design and advertising. I studied graphic design with a focus on how brands communicate, then began my career in agency environments where I learned how strategy, storytelling, and design work together to shape how people perceive a business.

As I worked with more companies, I kept seeing the same problem: a lot of businesses were doing good work, but their brand didn’t clearly explain it. Their message was scattered, their audience was confused, and their marketing felt like trial and error. That’s what pulled me deeper into brand strategy. I wanted to help businesses build clarity first, then build everything else on top of that.

I eventually built and led my own studio, working across identity, packaging, and marketing. Later, life forced a major restart. I moved to the U.S. and had to rebuild from zero. It was hard, but it shaped my approach in a deeper way. I studied, worked full time, and kept sharpening my skills in modern branding, UX, and growth-focused marketing.

That experience is what led to UrBrand Studio. I built it to be strategy-first and hands-on, with the kind of structure many small and growing businesses never get access to. Today I help founders, service businesses, and growing organizations move from confusion to clarity by building brand systems that connect positioning, messaging, identity, and digital presence. The goal is always the same: make the brand clear, consistent, and built to grow.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, but the challenges shaped how I work today.
One of the biggest struggles was rebuilding after moving to the U.S. I had years of experience, but I still had to start again in a new market, build relationships from scratch, and prove my work in a different business environment. That meant working full-time while continuing to grow my skills and slowly rebuilding momentum.
There were also creative challenges. Branding is often misunderstood as just visuals, so I had to learn how to educate clients on the value of strategy, messaging, and positioning without overselling or overexplaining. That took time, confidence, and consistent results to build trust.
Those experiences are exactly why UrBrand Studio is now strategy-led, structured, and built around clarity from the beginning, so both the client and the brand have a stronger foundation to grow.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about UrBrand Studio?
UrBrand Studio is a boutique brand consultancy based in Los Angeles. We specialize in helping businesses move from confusion to clarity by building strong brand foundations that connect strategy, identity, and growth.

We work primarily with service-based businesses, founders, wellness and creative brands, and growing organizations that have outgrown DIY branding and fragmented marketing. Many of our clients come to us feeling stuck, inconsistent, or unsure how to clearly communicate their value. Our role is to bring structure, direction, and confidence to their brand so every touchpoint works together.

What sets UrBrand Studio apart is our strategy-first approach. We don’t start with visuals alone. Every project begins with clarity. We focus on brand audits, positioning, messaging, and systems that guide design, websites, and marketing decisions. This ensures the brand is not only visually aligned, but also intentional, credible, and built to support real business goals.

We are known for our clarity-driven process, competitive brand audits, and hands-on partnership style. Clients appreciate that we explain the “why” behind every decision and give them tools they can actually use long after the project is complete. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions or overbuilding. We guide clients to the right starting point and help them grow with purpose.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust our clients place in us and the long-term relationships we build. UrBrand Studio is designed to be a steady partner, not just a one-time service. Our goal is to help brands feel aligned, confident, and ready to grow, with clarity at the center of everything we do.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor has been less about asking someone to “be my mentor” and more about building real relationships over time. The best mentors I’ve had started as people I respected, stayed in touch with, and learned from through consistent conversations.
For networking, what has worked best for me is showing up consistently in the same rooms. I’ve met some of my best connections through local business groups and community events, especially when I focused on listening first and learning what people actually need. A lot of opportunities come from follow-up, not the first meeting.
A few things that have helped me:
1. Be clear about what you do in one sentence. People remember clarity. When your message is simple, it’s easier for others to refer you.

2. Lead with curiosity, not selling. I ask a few thoughtful questions, listen, and then offer a useful suggestion or resource. That builds trust fast.

3. Give before you ask. Referrals, introductions, sharing opportunities, or even just promoting someone else’s work creates real reciprocity.

Overall, I’ve learned that networking is not about collecting contacts, it’s about building relationships. The most helpful mentors and partners are usually the ones who see how you work over time, not the ones you impress in one conversation.
