Hidden Gems: Meet Brad Gold of Calabasas Pickleball Club

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Gold.

Hi Brad , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in Calabasas, back when Calabasas was actually Woodland Hills-went to Arizona state and during college, I got an internship with some LA based sports producers and that led to a 10 year tv production career that spanned from doing Lakers and Dodgers TV to NFL network – I always wanted to work in finance so I transitioned into wealth a management where I ended up at Morgan Stanley, and then Merrill – the pandemic hit and I feel in love w Picleball – I ended up trying to figure out why there were no facilities to play
— from there all my time and effort came into building a pickleball club in the area, and found the most amazing piece of land— I partnered with one of my best friends who I met at Chappatal Elementary and we forged ahead – I quit my career and run the pickleball club full time

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Everyone said it couldn’t be done. Even when we secured the entitlements, I would give tours of the old equestrian facility and the now members thought there was no chance we would accomplish the task— country of Los Angeles was incredible to work with, regional planning, a special shout out was very available and made the process smooth.. The City of Calabasas is a great partner for us. Once we opened, our membership just started growing natustally , word of mouth. But it’s really our members who have built an incredible culture for us- and that has made things pretty easy.. now we are on to another phase of our club, and finding the right investors has been difficult – but we couldn’t be more excited about our future

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We have been called the “most beautiful Picleball club” by multiple organizations and groups. Hands – down we are the premier outdoor pickleball facility in LA

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
It’s a roller coaster nationally. Pickleball clubs are being built too fast and in most areas, public courts are free and accessible- locally, public facilities are scarce , but indoor facilities are popping up left and right – and I hope the industry can continue to grow with the influx of locations

Pricing:

  • $20 drop in play
  • Memberships at 179
  • Most our members are paying less than $10 an hour
