Today we’d like to introduce you to Seda Sahin
Seda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Before moving to the United States, I lived in Turkey and Oman, two countries that played a pivotal role in shaping my perspective. These experiences exposed me to diverse cultures, values, and ways of life, fostering adaptability and a deep appreciation for community. I moved to the United States to pursue my Master’s degree at Northwestern University, a decision that marked the beginning of a transformative journey. After earning my degree, I continued my career as an Infrastructure Strategy Consultant in Los Angeles. I specialized in rail systems, roadways, bridges, airports, and energy. I help local and state governments as a strategy consultant, working on projects such as streamlining public transportation systems and developing sustainability plans. I have also specialized in employee health and safety, as well as other environmental, social, and governance matters, ensuring that organizations align with long-term, impactful goals. Over the years, I’ve dedicated more than half of my career to helping airports build new capital projects and optimize their operations.
While my career was fulfilling in many ways, I couldn’t ignore a persistent craving for a more balanced lifestyle—one where I could integrate my passions and priorities more seamlessly. This realization struck one night after working late on a major project, when I felt the weight of constant deadlines pulling me away from personal fulfillment. I realized that I wanted to create something of my own, something that would not only help me find balance but also support others who shared the same dilemmas.
That’s when the idea for CoreLab was born. The name came to me almost instantly, and I secured the domain two years before I even began building the business. During that time, I reflected on what truly mattered to me. Fitness, music, and community stood out as pillars of my life, each representing a critical part of my well-being. Fitness kept me grounded and energized, music fueled my creativity and emotional expression, and community reminded me of the power of connection and support. I knew CoreLab needed to embody these values to create a space where others could find the same fulfillment.
Lagree, a workout method that had become a significant part of my routine, focuses on low-impact, high-intensity movements performed on a specialized machine. It perfectly aligned with my vision by emphasizing controlled movements, strength, and mindfulness. Its focus on controlled movements, strength, and mindfulness mirrored the balance I was striving for. I saw an opportunity to marry Lagree with my love for music and community to create a space where people could come together, grow stronger, and support each other.
CoreLab isn’t just a studio; it’s a reflection of my journey and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. I believe that finding the things that keep you going and weaving them into your life is the key to fulfillment. For me, that’s what CoreLab represents—a space to find balance, rediscover your core, and thrive as part of a community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but I’ve learned that every challenge has shaped me and this journey in meaningful ways. Balancing my corporate career while building CoreLab was one of the toughest aspects. There were late nights, moments of doubt, and constant juggling to ensure that I could meet my professional obligations while also bringing my dream to life.
Stepping into the fitness industry was a completely new territory for me. Coming from a background in engineering and consulting, I had to learn so many things from scratch—business operations, branding, marketing, and even how to build a community. Opening CoreLab in late December, during a time when many were still navigating uncertainty, added its own set of challenges. Yet, every obstacle taught me the importance of resilience and adaptability.
I’m incredibly grateful for the amazing circle of friends who have been my rock throughout this process. Their encouragement, advice, and unwavering belief in my vision kept me motivated even during the toughest moments. Launching CoreLab has been challenging, but seeing it come to life and watching the positive impact it’s already having on others has been so rewarding. It’s a journey I’m proud to be on, and I’m excited to see where it takes me next.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Absolutely! CoreLab is more than just a fitness studio—it’s a space where mindfulness, movement, and community come together to create a holistic approach to wellness. Our philosophy centers on exploring the art of mindfulness through music, movement, and breathwork, blending culture and science to enhance both physical and mental well-being.
We specialize in a dynamic range of classes, including Lagree, mobility, and breathwork, all designed to build strength, flexibility, and inner awareness. What sets us apart is our focus on creating an experience that goes beyond physical fitness. Every class incorporates music to energize and inspire, fostering a connection between body and mind.
At CoreLab, we pride ourselves on cultivating a supportive and inclusive environment. Our studio is a sanctuary where you can challenge yourself, connect with like-minded individuals, and find encouragement along your journey. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned enthusiast, our passionate instructors are dedicated to helping you achieve your health and wellness goals.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is the significance of trusting my instincts when it comes to choosing the right people to work with.
Early on, I encountered several contractors and professionals who raised red flags. Instead of addressing these concerns promptly, I continued to work with them, overstretching my availability and being overly flexible. This led to delays and ultimately, I had to let them go because they didn’t deliver the work as promised.
Building CoreLab in just 4-5 months is an achievement I’m proud of, but I recognize that some of that time was wasted due to my initial inexperience in dealing with incompetent businesses. This experience taught me the value of making tough decisions early on and surrounding myself with reliable and capable partners.
