Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard & Ryan Taylor.
Hi Richard & Ryan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Yes, we are Richard E. Taylor II & Ryan N. Taylor, two brothers from Rancho Cucamonga, CA also known as “The Steampunk Brothers” and we are the owners of I.F.B. Studios, one LA’s newer film studios, centrally located in Glendale, California.
Our vision for a film studio, came through our passion for acting & filmmaking. Richard started acting at the tender age of four in commercials and later on appearing in numerous productions & music videos for artist such as Lenny Kravitz, Mary J. Blige and shows like Glee and John Benjamin Has a Van. He is also a graduate from California State University San Bernardino where he earned his B.A. in Psychology and has over 10 years of experience working in health services as a behavioral therapist. Richard also served as the office manager for Plan B… Therapy Family Counseling Center for 6 years where he gained a vast knowledge of managing a business.
Ryan was pulled into acting at the age of 12 when Richard signed him up for John Casablanca’s Acting School . Since then, he has starred in multiple productions, such as his leading role in the 2012 released feature film The Young Believers. He more recent roles include starring in 2023 released feature film Bolt from The Blue which was shot on location in Alaska and also making cameo appearances in several vertical soap operas.
Aside from acting, Ryan fell in love with the behind-the-scenes when he joined the camera/media ministry at Cathedral of Praise Int. Ministries. This led him to pursue a college degree in film at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. While there, Ryan developed his passion for Assistant Directing and upon graduating with his BA in 2018, he became a full-time freelance Assistant Director, having worked on over 70 productions to date. He is currently preparing to return back to his alma matter for his Masters in Entrepreneurship & Innovation at USC’s Marshall School of Business.
It was while assistant directing however, that Ryan first got the idea to create a warehouse studio. Having to interact with studio owners/stage managers and observing what each studio had to offer, Ryan was able to get an idea for what things are needed to turn a warehouse into a studio and run it.
One day while filming at a studio, Ryan invited Richard to check it out during his lunch break. This studio happened to be ran by two young friends which made them think “Hey, maybe we can do something like this one day”. Fast forward 2 years later, during the 2020 Covid-19 Pandemic, something told us to launch a new business venture. With so much down time from the pandemic, it became the perfect distraction for us.
By March of 2021, it was time to open our studio doors to the public. We are currently celebrating our 4th Year of being in business and could not be proud of our journey. Since our grand opening on March 7th, 2021, our 3,500 Sq ft facility has been then home of numerous film productions, photo shoots and live events with some of our regular clients including ABC,Disney & CNN. From our large cyclorama wall to our in-house prop shop (included in all rentals), we pride ourselves in providing a safe and exciting atmosphere for you to be able to create in.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road? Not at all. Since opening, we have been tested numerous times. Such as surviving the Covid-19 pandemic, the writer’s strike, a fire in our studio and then the 2025 Los Angeles Fires, our faith & drive have been pushed to the brink.
However, it is in the struggle that we have been able to see our true strength and it has brought the two of us together as brothers and businessmen. Having a partner to go through the fight has been very beneficial because when one is having an off day, the other can step in and fill that gap. It also feels good to know that someone else understands what you are going through because they are in the same boat as you.
Throughout it all, the biggest thing that we have learned is to not be afraid to pivot when needed. Doing so has benefited us because we have been able to diversify out clientele and not rely solely on one target population, but vast variety of industries within entertainment.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are the owners of I.F.B. Studios, a film studio centrally located in Glendale, California. What do you like and dislike about the city?
Our favorite things about our city would be, the history, and the landscaping/architecture .On the right clear sunny day, Los Angeles can look almost unreal with its beauty. Also the easy accessibility to events and night life.
What we like least about LA would be the traffic! As enjoyable as the city is, it is very draining trying to navigate through a sea full of unconfident drivers.
