Exploring Life & Business with Leisure Life of Leisure Life

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leisure Life

Hi Leisure, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Leisure Life began in 2017 as a seed planted in the local music scene based out of Whittier, CA. We named the company in dedication to Johnny Gonzales Jr who tragically lost his life in a car accident days before his 19th birthday. Our intentions with Leisure life have always been to raise the bar in the means of production. In the beginning, we started with throwing DIY punk/indie/psychedelic shows focusing on giving the bands and the audience an unforgettable experience. Inspired by our own personal experiences, we recognized the importance of having a team who all share the fire to be creative with a high-risk spirit. From the start, we always had a focus on the Entrepreneurial aspect of forming a small business. We weren’t afraid to risk the investment, we had part time jobs and were going to community college. We bought a PA system on offer up and built a stage out of pallets and plywood. We would haul our gear all over the San Gabriel Valley and 562 area in pick-up trucks and station wagon like vehicles, Spanning as far as the Inland Empire and Orange County.

As we were slowly growing our audience and fanbase, the Covid-19 Pandemic struck. It was hard maintaining some momentum, but thanks to Bailey Moraga (DJ Kleptoe) for interviewing bands on a weekly segment and keeping up with our Instagram, we were able to keep some relevancy and online presence. All while we stood still with the rest of the world, waiting for normal, and selfishly waiting for the return of live music.

Fast forward to current day, Founder Dylan Alva has grown a small but mighty team. Vince Rodriguez has been brought in as our Lead Talent Buyer and Alyssa Lucero is our Creative Director. In 2025, the seed has bloomed into a flourished flower with tender leaves holding a story of resilience, passion, and connection. Leisure Life has transitioned from backyard plywood stages, to stages iconic Artists have touched and performed on. This past December we hosted our First Annual Christmas Goods Drive at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach collecting items in partner with Tip-Top Barbershop to donate to the Whittier Salvation Army Center. In August of 2024 at the Paramount, our production was welcomed to bring local bands with a unique creative drive to play one a hell of a show. Headlining that night was Spunk, an up-and-coming punk band breaking the boundaries of generic entertainment. They bring rude raw energy like The Germs. There set ended in a baby powder shower leaving lead singer Bruno sweeping up the paramount floor at the end of the night. SORRY JOSE G. We had to make sure someone cleaned up the mess because Leisure Life is for the people!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think consistency has always been the biggest issue with our brand. We were very young when we started and some of the people that we started with have moved on from the music stuff or went on into their own endeavors. Were very confident with the current team and the future of Leisure life and what’s in store.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We want to be a voice for our generation and many generations to come. Hoping one day to be on the level of Golden Voice. Our current goal to create content like old school MTV, giving the artists we support a multimedia platform. With ambitions to collaborate with other creatives in our community like our friends who run Hidden Trees a live session-based YouTube series. Carlos from Blursdream also deserves a shoutout for all his contributions to the scene for recording all of the local shows documenting them on his YouTube channel.

We specialize in Production and Live Events. We primarily throw shows in the greater Los Angeles area. We also have a recording Studio based out of Whittier CA.
What sets us apart from others is our passion for the community and our attention to the little details. Giving our best efforts to create a welcoming and safe environment for everyone. Making sure we have all the right equipment, having the best sound, and the staff always being knowledgeable and polite.
We’re proud of our perseverance and never losing hope. It’s truly an amazing feeling that we’ve built a reputation where were able to host events at some of the coolest places in LA and book the most Poppin’ bands

We want all bands in LA to reach out to leisurelifebooking@gmail.com for booking inquires and so we can keep you up to date with what’s going on with us!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
