Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Shapira.
Hi kim, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started almost 28 years ago. I had a very traditional education, a BS in exercise science and kinesiology from Tulane University and an MS in Human Metabolism and Clinical Nutrition from Boston University. Immedietly following school I opened a private practice and starting working with clients. My formal education taught me all about the effects diet, nutriton and food had on our bodies but I quickly learned it did not teach me anything about the person inside their body. I quickly shifted directions away from diets and into a more simple format of working with what I would later call my six simple rules, otherwise known as the Kim Shapira Method. This provided a more solid foundation for success in maintaining results.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I learned early on that many of my clients eat the way I shopped and if I wanted to really help people I had to help myself. It wasn’t about the food, but it was kinda about the food. I did a deep dive into a less formal education that helped me that later became my guiding light for my clients. There have always been fads and new approaches but the truth is that only leads to more problems with food and our overall wellbeing. I have tried to meet my clients where they are at and then to open their eyes and minds to exploring it starts and ends with how we feel in the moment we are in.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a private practice. I see clients privately and in group settings. I also have a masterclass available with lifetime access to the videos. this also includes access to a private facebook group and lots of different ways to encourage growth. I am work with different franchises like Wundabar, Pure Barre and Rumble offering informal talks to help anyone who needs it.
I am really different because I rarely talk about food with my clients. Most people know what to eat, they just don’t eat it. I like to work on the space between the thought to eat and the action to eat.
My first book, This Is What You’re Really Hungry For came out two years ago and I couldn’t be more proud of writing it and the reach it has had.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love that LA is so walkable with so many different hikes, creeks and neighborhoods. I love the access to different workouts and that coffee is readily available everywhere.
LA is also so big and the traffic is tough
