Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Beuerlein
Hi Julie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Starting my interior design business was the culmination of a lifetime of passion and a journey through different personal and professional roles. My husband and I have lived in the South Bay for 20 years and in Palos Verdes Estates for 12. We have three wonderful kids. They are my heart and the reason I started my business. I wanted them to see firsthand what it looks like to take a passion and turn it into something meaningful, to build a career that not only brings me joy but makes a difference in people’s lives.
Interior design was a second career and happened after my oldest left for college, but I have always loved design and have been rearranging and redecorating spaces for as long as I can remember. I started my career at The Walt Disney Company in their Licensing Division, working in marketing, advertising, and project management. I then worked at a few Los Angeles-based advertising agencies on the account side and then made my way back to Disney when my son was a baby. After staying home with my kids for many years, I finally decided to pursue a career in interior design. I enrolled first at Otis College of Art + Design and then at UCLA Extension in their Interior Architecture program. I officially launched JKB Home Design in March 2020 and I haven’t looked back. It has been the best career decision I have made.
My time in marketing, advertising, and project management has taught me how to handle many details, foresee problems, and deliver with precision. Raising my kids gave me insight into how a home’s design impacts daily life. Now, I’m combining all those experiences to help people create spaces that truly feel like home. It’s been an amazing journey so far, and I can’t wait for what’s next.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business is anything but easy, and as it grows, it comes with its own set of challenges. The key is staying adaptable and willing to pivot when needed. For me, the toughest part was finding the confidence to keep moving forward. There was so much I had yet to learn—both creatively and in the day-to-day operations of running a business. But each day, I made a promise to myself to learn something new and stayed focused on the end goal – creating a life and career that brought me personal fulfillment and supported my family financially.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
My interior design career actually took shape during the Covid pandemic, and through that experience, I discovered something important about myself: when given extra time, I prefer to use it productively rather than sitting idle. I invested that time into self-improvement, whether it was researching how to start a business, enrolling in design courses, or diving into industry podcasts. That period of growth helped lay the foundation for my career.
