Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Clark.
Hi Jeff, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was a Producer/Director for a few decades and got my start in music videos. That was my film school so to speak, and I didn’t have the budgets for hiring a location scout so I always handled my own location needs. I eventually moved into producing commercials, television, visual effects, and even co-founded a Hollywood based film school, but still continued to scout and manage locations for all of my productions throughout my career.
Then, after producing over 1,000 shoots in 30 countries globally, and 45 States in the US, I decided to make the switch to becoming a location scout. My key focus has been California and I have kept too busy here to travel outside of the State, and California certainly offers so much in diverse landcapes anyway.
Having the mindset of a producer and the knowledge base of locations from decades of film productions and running my own L.A. based production companies, made me a quick study and I quickly became one of the busiest location scouts in the State. I really enjoy the outdoor shoots and locations and rarely deal with shooting in homes. I prefer the beaches, mountains, deserts, and forests that California is so well known for and for me, that’s where the adventure lies; in discovering new places and taking pictures of amazing scenery to share with others. I really love this work as I meet new people and it takes me to new places every day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Actually, it has been a pretty smooth road. It took some time to build clientelle of course, and it took about two years before I was able to keep busy enough to stop producing altogether, but now I maintain many regular clients as well as servicing the new ones that reach out to me every week. I’m rarely without work and I enjoy the constant flow of business.
I guess the only challenge is that production schedules are constantly changing, which sometimes makes it hard to plan my personal life around my ever shifting work schedule.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m an avid bass player for decades and though I no longer have time to play in a band, I still practice playing my basses every day.
One very useful trick I’ve learned when working from my office. I find that when I get stuck on a work related problem I can simply pick up one of my basses and play for a few minutes. This allows me to refocus my thoughts creatively, shifting my mind away from the problem and within a few minutes, my subconscious seems to have somehow resolved the problem at hand, and I’m quickly able to return to my work and move forward again.
It’s also just a great stress releaver.
