Exploring Life & Business with Isabella Sanchez Castañeda of Isa Media

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabella Sanchez Castañeda.

Isabella Sanchez Castañeda

Hi Isabella, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I wanted to be a journalist since I was in the 6th grade. I went to school for it, got all the internships in journalism, and even started working at a magazine right after graduation. But it wasn’t everything I hoped it would be. I hadn’t stopped to question if I actually wanted it or if I was holding myself to it because I’d been saying it for so long.

But I graduated in 2020. The best year to graduate, right? The uncertainty I saw actually gave me the freedom to say – what if I just try something else?

So, only ten months after graduating college and starting my “dream” career – I decided to start Isa Media Inc. As a bold 22-year-old, I requested a Zoom meeting with my boss and handed in my 2 weeks’ notice.

Now, it’s been three years, and I’m incredibly grateful that I made that change. In 2021, I was trying to land my first client, praying someone would pay me $200 a month to manage their social media. Now, I work with the most incredible clients daily on their podcasts; I’m growing a team and continuing to push forward.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My favorite phrase last year was, “Thank God I didn’t get exactly what I wanted,” because I came to realize that there was something even bigger and better on the other side.

But I would say that in hindsight because, in the moment, it felt awful. I have made hundreds of small pivots in the last three years of business, and each one has brought frustration, doubts, and questioning. I’ve undercharged, I’ve ignored red flags with clients, and I’ve made bad investments. But it’s been through all those struggles and frustrations that I’ve grown from the most.

As you know, we’re big fans of Isa Media Inc. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
Isa Media Inc. is a digital marketing agency focused on helping coaches and service providers market themselves through podcasting. Our main focus is on podcast development and strategy. Choosing the right message, the right structure, and the right words to get your impact shared with the world. While other people start with buying the best microphone and the best editing tools, we start with understanding your listener really well and building that connection first.

I am most proud of the incredible clients who have trusted us with their message. I’m thinking of Morgan Reid with The A Little Mental Podcast, Ariana Rodriguez with Stories of Scaling, and many, many others.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I would have given up back in 2021 if it weren’t for the people in my life. They believed in me and this business even when I couldn’t see it. My partner, my friends, and my parents have sat with me when a client fell through, when a post didn’t do well, when the math wasn’t mathing. It is because of them that I can do what I do.
