Hi Dr. Pooja, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m Dr. Pooja Gidwani, MD, MBA, a double board-certified physician in internal and obesity medicine. My journey in medicine began with a deep desire to change lives, which led me into hospital-based care. There, I saw medicine’s power to save lives but also its limits: we stabilized patients, saved lives, and sent them on their way. Too often, I found myself wondering what happened next. Did they have the tools to truly thrive, or were they waiting for the next crisis?

The hardest moments were when we lost patients who might have lived longer, healthier lives if only they’d had proactive, preventive care. Watching loved ones say goodbye, knowing their stories and passions were left unfinished, was heartbreaking. I realized then that to make the impact I wanted, I had to provide a different kind of care—one that went beyond quick fixes and helped people build resilience and longevity.

This inspired me to build my concierge practice, where I could spend meaningful time with each patient, tailoring care to their unique needs with a focus on physical and mental well-being. My mission is to educate and empower individuals to live vibrant, fulfilling lives—not just for themselves, but for the families, careers, and passions that drive them. It’s this personalized, longevity-focused approach that I believe can truly make a difference, one patient at a time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Building a concierge practice focused on longevity and proactive care has been incredibly rewarding yet full of unique challenges. My approach is a bit disruptive in today’s healthcare landscape—I’ve chosen to move beyond traditional insurance models to provide personalized, comprehensive care that emphasizes quality over quantity. In my practice, I work with patients to create proactive health plans that prioritize prevention and optimal wellness.

One of the biggest challenges has been shifting people’s mindsets from reactive to proactive care. In a system designed for brief appointments and immediate symptom management, many patients aren’t used to viewing health as a long-term investment. I believe, as do many others, in the power of this approach to transform lives, but it’s not yet widely embraced.

Establishing this model in a market that often prioritizes speed over depth has been another hurdle, but I’m committed to proving its value. I believe that, despite these challenges, this model will ultimately pave the way for a new standard of healthcare—one that truly values health as a long-term investment.

I believe deeply in the power of preventive health, and part of my plan involves scaling through digital platforms to bring effective health strategies into more lives, no matter where people are. By leveraging technology, I hope to bridge gaps in healthcare and empower individuals to take control of their wellness from anywhere.

Through these efforts, my goal is to inspire a movement towards making health a sustainable, enjoyable part of everyday life, raising awareness and shifting our culture toward a more empowered approach to well-being.
