Exploring Life & Business with Dr. Juliana King, DACM of Breakthrough Healing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Juliana King.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my career in healthcare the day I left my doctor’s office feeling terribly sick. He gave me a prescription for a medication that didn’t work, and told me that there was nothing else I could do. Up until that low point in my life, I was the kind of person that didn’t know anything about food, the healthcare system, or how to take care of myself in any real way. Although my formal healthcare education started years after getting diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, that was the day I took my health into my own hands and got started. That day, I went home and started researching for the first time about how food affects the body, how emotions affect the body, how trauma affects the body, how the environment affects the body, etc. I stopped seeing the body as a machine and started seeing it as a beautiful, complex vehicle that houses my soul. I realized that if I didn’t take care of it properly and learn to start honoring myself, I wouldn’t lead the full, beautiful life I was envisioning. And what’s more, I wouldn’t be able to give back or be of service the way I wanted to be.

When I first started my education in healthcare, I was there to heal myself – I had to be. I had very severe brain fog, barely enough energy to make it through the day, gut problems, hormone problems, depression, bloating…the list goes on. I was a mess! I studied both traditional Chinese medicine and functional medicine, eventually earning my doctorate degree. It took me 6 years to complete my education, and about four years to fully heal my body. I felt so proud of myself that I was able to graduate school in good health. With my energy restored, I was able to realize my next dream; to help people deeply heal themselves mentally, spiritually & emotionally just as I had been able to do for myself. I started my own wholistic health care practice in 2017 and see people both in person and virtually.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve found opening a business to be a deeply spiritual practice. I very much AM my business & my business is me. When I first started my business in 2017, I had never owned a company before and there was a very quick learning curve. Learning everything from managing finances to confidently promoting the business took a lot of courage. However, after six years of being in practice, I feel so grateful for all of the experiences I’ve had: the people I have gotten to work with, how I have grown as a practitioner, and all of the challenges I have faced. And since I chose the life of an entrepreneur, I know there are plenty more challenges ahead and that they are all serving to help me become my best self. As they say, life is happening for me and not to me. And the same goes for any challenge!

We’ve been impressed with Breakthrough Healing , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Through a blend of functional medicine, natural therapies, and intuitive guidance, my mission is to take people beyond their idea of health — into a place of complete physical and mental wellness. I specialize in serving people who are either suffering from a chronic disease, or “chronic unwellness”- meaning they don’t have any kind of disease label, but they just generally don’t feel good in their body. I work with people that fall through the cracks of traditional healthcare, get told their labs are fine and “within normal range,” or don’t want to end up on a shoebox of prescription medications. They are people that are ambitious and want more from life, but don’t have the energy to get what they want. They want more support than a traditional doctor can give, and they want to feel emotionally connected to and cared for. I am most proud of giving people a beautiful, supportive, and deeply thorough way of healing that addresses more than just the body. I look at the whole person because I operate with the understanding that emotions and beliefs impact your physical health. This is why I have been also been trained in coaching techniques which can help with mindset, self love & releasing old unhealthy stories. I know how to meet people where they are at and help them build a vision for their future self, then gently work with them to meet that vision. I faithfully believe in the body’s ability to heal, given the right support. This belief is what guides my entire process and what has allowed me to see extraordinary healing manifest itself in my patients, year after year.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the wake of the pandemic, the wholistic healthcare space has become more popular than ever. Add to that, all of the influencers on social media who have popularized herbal medicines, acupuncture, cold & infrared therapies, green juices, etc and I see my industry growing at light speed. I believe that the need for wholistic healthcare far outpaces the amount of providers available. The biggest issue is that people don’t know where to turn to find the right kind of provider for them. There are lots of websites springing up right now trying to solve this problem.

I don’t know if this is too hopeful, but I do see western medicine starting to incorporate more wholistic providers onto their teams for hospital staff or bigger healthcare practices. People want more preventative services and I do believe the western medical establishment will eventually have to bend to this demand. The internet has made for much smarter consumers, and people are starting to question the model of “pill for every ill.”
