Today we’d like to introduce you to Colette Connor
Hi Colette, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I spent most of my childhood and ‘20s struggling with my health and experiencing dozens of mysterious symptoms. After going from doctor to doctor with no answers, I began to become disenchanted with the traditional medical system. I’m not really someone that is good at taking “I don’t know” as an answer and began to research alternative modalities to heal myself. After years of being my own guinea pig, with some things helping and others being a waste of money, I discovered the magic of lymphatic massage. I have tried many different styles of lymphatic massage, but mechanical lymphatic drainage using the Icoone machine (what I use in my studio) helped most with healing my body.
After working in education for years, I knew it was time for me to move forward and help others by opening my own lymphatic drainage studio. Opening Well Studio was a complete 180 from my previous career, but I couldn’t be happier with my decision. Helping others feel their best is truly the greatest gift I could ask for. Plus, being back in my hometown of Pasadena as a business owner is extremely rewarding.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I definitely didn’t open my business in a traditional way! I didn’t come up with a formal business plan as many do, but I did do some rough math and knew in my heart it could and would work. Would I recommend this approach to others? Maybe if you’re a chronic overthinker like me, but every business owner I’ve talked to has their own style of how they started and what keeps them going. I did hire a business coach almost immediately, and that was the best decision I could have made. Of course there have been struggles along the way! I compare it to learning how to ride a bike again. If you’ve thought about starting your own business, you’re ready to be your biggest advocate, and face things about yourself that you thought you could ignore. Ultimately, I can say it is 100% worth it.
As you know, we’re big fans of Well Studio. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Opening Well Studio in Pasadena, I’m proud to be the only studio in East Los Angeles offering lymphatic treatments using the Icoone machine. Imported from Italy and widely used in Europe’s most luxurious spas, the Icoone provides a gentle deep tissue massage that stimulates the lymph system to drain out toxins from the body. Additionally, our Icoone machine offers LED/Laser technology which penetrates deeper into the cells for more effective results.
Fundamentally, our mission at the studio is to help clients feel their best. My main goal is for clients to learn how to be intuitive with their body, which is so important for longevity and well-being. I love to educate clients about the lymphatic system and why they may be experiencing certain symptoms, while allowing space for them to begin cultivating a stronger and healthier connection with their body.
An Icoone treatment is like no other treatment you’ve experienced before. Clients often say it’s hard to describe the feeling until you try it. Plus, the results really do speak for themselves. Not only are you helping your body detoxify and remain at its best, but you also look and feel so much better afterwards.
What were you like growing up?
I was definitely far more insecure as a kid than I am now. I had no idea how to be myself without feeling embarrassed. I look back sometimes and think, “Wow, what would my experiences have been like if I was just brave enough to really be myself?” That may have been part of the reason it took me so long to start Well Studio. Sometimes my imposter syndrome likes to try to rear its head, but I am proud to say I’ve really come a long way embracing being me. Interest-wise as a kid, I always wanted to own a hotel or be an interior designer, which is probably why I was obsessed with making Well Studio feel like a mini hotel and home away from home for my clients.
