Today we’d like to introduce you to Berj Parseghian
Hi Berj, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started training in the martial arts as a child in 1994. At the time I had no idea why besides the fact that my older brother was super excited about it. Little did I know that training in the martial arts would open the door for me to discover my greatest passion in life, teaching. That open door led me to a Masters Degree in Education, 10 years of middle and high school instruction, and now to three martial arts studios with my older brother Anto.
-Jeff Speakman’s Kenpo 5.0 Pasadena (26 years of excellence so far)
-Jeff Speakman’s Kenpo 5.0 Whittier (12 years of excellence so far)
-Jeff Speakman’s Kenpo 5.0 Monrovia (2 years of excellence so far)
All three under our family banner of HYE-KENPO Karate.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My biggest struggle has been finding the time: Between my involvement in the Armenian Youth Federation and community life, teaching middle and high school history, advancing my own education, my ultimate passion of teaching and practicing martial arts, and my desire to explore this world and all the insane and incredible things life has to offer with my wife and dog.
We’ve been impressed with Jeff Speakman’s Kenpo 5.0, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I couldn’t be any more proud of being a member of the Jeff Speakman Kenpo 5.0 organization. Our martial arts group can be found in over 15 countries. We are a family that treats each other with the utmost respect, we push and challenge one another to excellence, and we do the exact same martial art despite the fact that we don’t all speak the same language. Everyone is welcome in our organization, nd as our founder and leader Mr. Speakman says, the walls of separation that exist in the outside world do not exist in our organization.
Our martial art is constantly evolving to meet modern day challenges. We teach both stand up and ground defense and offense, we respect and honor traditions, and our fighting style is completely modernized.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck is luck, and when you work hard, develop skill, and are relentless in your pursuit of your goals and aspirations, things start to happen.
