Exploring Life & Business with Arsen Misakyan of LAXcar, Angel City Limo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arsen Misakyan.

Hi Arsen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started in transportation on the ground level, working directly with drivers and dispatching, which gave me a clear view of what clients actually care about—reliability, communication, and consistency. I saw a gap in the market and built LAXcar and Angel City Limo around those principles, focusing on service quality rather than competing on price.

As we grew, I took on more complex operations, from airport transfers to large corporate events with dozens of vehicles. Today, we serve clients across California and have built a strong reputation by staying detail-oriented and execution-focused. My role now is centered on scaling the business and strengthening the systems behind it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all—it’s been far from smooth. One of the biggest early challenges was consistency. In this business, one bad experience can cost you a client, so building a reliable team and setting clear service standards took time.

Scaling was another hurdle. Handling a few trips is easy—managing large events with multiple vehicles and tight timelines is a different story. There were mistakes along the way, but they pushed me to build stronger systems, improve communication, and run a much tighter operation today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We run LAXcar and Angel City Limo, focused on airport transfers and event transportation across California. Most of our work is either time-sensitive travel—like LAX pickups—or coordinating multiple vehicles for corporate events where timing and communication really matter.

What makes us different is how operational we are. A lot of companies focus on bookings—we focus on execution. Dispatching, driver coordination, and having backup plans in place is where we spend most of our energy, because that’s what actually determines whether a trip goes smoothly or not.

What I’m most proud of is the consistency. Over time, we’ve built a reputation for being reliable, especially in situations where things can easily go wrong. If there’s one thing to know about us, it’s that we’re the team clients call when they need it handled properly, not just booked.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I’m not big on consuming everything—I try to stick to a few things that are actually useful and practical. Books like The Lean Startup and The Hard Thing About Hard Things shaped how I think about building and operating a business, especially around making decisions under pressure and not overengineering things early. Atomic Habits also stuck with me—it’s simple, but it reinforces how small systems drive long-term results.

For podcasts, I usually lean toward founder conversations rather than theory. How I Built This and The Diary of a CEO are two I come back to—they give real insight into how people think and handle challenges behind the scenes. I also pay attention to what other operators are doing day-to-day—that’s honestly been just as valuable as any book or podcast.
