Today we’d like to introduce you to Yoshihiro Isogaya
Hi Yoshihiro, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised in Japan, after graduating from college in 2015 I decided to move to LA to pursue my career as a dancer. After a while in LA, I lost my passion to pursue dance as my career because I would compare my dance skills so much and judge my self that it became painful to even watch my dance and even watching dance videos online. On top of that my mental health state wasn’t at its best either, I felt like I was in a deep slump, a place full of darkness and felt lost in life and didn’t know which way to go. While I was battling/struggling with my mental health I decided to pick up a camera and started photographing things that attracted me. What attracted me the most was nature, the beauty within mother nature. Nothing had to be in a perfect setting, because the way nature is was already imperfectly perfect. The flowers on the street, the clouds that changes shapes and colors throughout the day, the little insects that are hiding all around us. It would give me a sense of peacefulness and I felt as it helped me through my dark times. A few years later I’ve decided to showcase my work at a friend’s new clothing store in silver lake. Since they gave me the opportunity I decided to take that chance. I am so grateful till this day that I had that opportunity and took the opportunity even if I didn’t know what I was doing at first, I felt as if you have the chance, you take it and figure it out as you go for it and the rest will fall into place.
As of now I still enjoy doing photography and have also expanded my medium to not just photography but in drawing art as well. This is my newer journey that I’m excited to pursue alongside photography.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely my struggles were with my mental health, the doubts and worries that would creep into my thoughts held me back.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I do photography and art(drawings).
In photography I specialize in nature, and in drawings I’m working on drawing peoples spirits in my own way.
I’m proud of me for keep believing in myself even with all the doubts I had would hold me back I still kept going.
My photography gives you the sense of peaceful calmness and opposite to that my drawings can give you a sense of emotions in it which I think sets me apart from others. The contrast I give in the different mediums is total opposite.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I’d say my husband was my best supporter, cheerleader, advocate all in one!
Because of him, I was able to keep going even in my darkest times he would believe in me and be right by my side and has been and still is to this day my greatest support.
