Today we’d like to introduce you to The Offtrax. They and their team shared their story with us below:
It all began during Kevin and David’s high school years. We met in a music club made up of no more than five people, and we clicked after playing a cover of Island in the Sun by Weezer. After that, we continued playing music together for fun, picking up friends along the way until we eventually established The Offtrax in 2018 and released our first single in September of 2019. Since then, we’ve been making music, playing shows, releasing EPs, and continuing to evolve our sound. Our official lineup consists of David Martinez (vocals/guitar), Marco Carretero (bass), Kevin De La Torre (guitar/vocals) and Baley Lopez (drums). We’ve been making waves in the So-Cal scene and are hoping to continue doing so for the foreseeable future.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
While we were fortunate enough to have always had our awesome friends supporting us from the beginning, pursuing a career in music isn’t easy. Being in a DIY band while also working full time and dealing with whatever life is throwing at you at the moment, it isn’t always easy to fund musical projects and have the best gear available at all times. But we’ve always persevered and made do with what we have. Throughout the years, we’ve gone through some changes to the band’s lineup, but we are confident in our current sound and compatibility as a band. Regardless of the hardships we’ve faced trying to pursue music full-time, it’s what we love and nothing has changed our drive and passion for what we do.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The genre we primarily started playing would be considered Indie Rock and we have mostly been known to stick to that sound. The band itself, however has evolved with the music, so we’ve always enjoyed trying different things and experimenting with the sound. We’ve even been working on some new music with a bit more intense sound that has recently gotten positive feedback when played at events. This definitely makes us proud of not just the music but the supportive audience we’ve garnered.
As for what sets us apart from others, we believe that while our music is uniquely recognizable, what people seem to really resonate with is the personality found not only in our music but also in our live performances and our interactions with the audience both on and off the stage. We’re proud to have garnered such a positive and supportive audience, and it’s partly due to us making a point of letting our personality and individuality shine through in everything we do. By doing that, we can make that connection with people through our music and as individuals as well.
We’re having so much fun making and performing music, and we want our audience to be sharing that positive feeling and feel like they are a part of that journey; because they are the reason we got to be where we are now and are what will keep us going in the future.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
There’s no reward without risk. With the entertainment industry being as competitive as it is, we’re constantly thinking of new ways we can evolve our sound and our image. While it’s scary to think about how people will react to every new project, it’s always exciting and seeing people have as much fun with it as we are is always extremely rewarding. Like with anything in life, risk is part of the game and if you let it scare you, it’ll always hold you back.
