Daily Inspiration: Meet Tatiana Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Johnson

Hi Tatiana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a fashion designer from Peru and I started my own handmade line 7 years ago I always sold in person in weekend type markets around LA, specially in Venice. After the pandemic the markets changed a lot, now there was more vendors, less quality and less customers. So I decided after years of complaining about the existing markets I should do my own, curating the vendors and creating the vibe to have a great atmosphere and community feel in a cohesive market exclusively for artists and makers. Afters several tries I finally was able to start with the first Artist Fair in Santa Monica, the vibes were great location amazing and the vendors and musicians were great people so it came together pretty well. I did the first Artist Fair in Culver City on December and everyone was happy about it and how it turned out so I’m extremely happy that now it has officially become a monthly event! Every last Saturday of the month all us artists will come together in Media Park and welcome the community to see our pieces and experience and afternoon of community, art, music and good vibes!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road, many challenges dealing with the different cities and the permits, as well as putting it together, getting the artists to organize and come as well as trying to get the word out for the community so they can come and enjoy the day with us. I believe this is just starting and there is much room to grow. As I am an artist myself I am always looking for ways to make it better and I happily take advice from the other artists or the community members themselves on how they feel and what they would want to see and try to make the best event for all of us.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I make handmade clothing with Peruvian Textiles. Im born and raised in Lima, Peru and a fashion designer so after being away from mob country for several years that’s when I really started to appreciate my culture like never before. I became very proud of it and love it so much so I love to show it to others and make them be a part and my process as they can wear it themselves!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Not really, except for game ups to exercise the brain! I am more of a visual person so if anything I like to get inspired by visual things like movies, art and architecture.
