Daily Inspiration: Meet Stefon Armstead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stefon Armstead.

Stefon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a native of Detroit, Michigan where I was born and raised. I was introduced to sports at the age of six and began developing a passion for being an athlete. While playing a variety of sports, I realized my biggest passion was football, which led me to receiving a full athletic scholarship to Central Michigan University. After playing football for four years, I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management and continued to use my athletic background to pursue a professional career in football. I ended up having a severe knee injury that required surgery and a year of recovery. During this time, my focused shifted into learning more about the body and physical fitness. In the beginning of 2017, I started training my body again at a high level and instead of doing it for a sport, I was training to help with stress levels and anxiety.

In four short months time, I had a great transformation and my mental state was better than it had been the previous year dealing with my recovery. I fell in love with the process of grinding and pushing myself mentally through physical activity. Through this experience, I realized that I wanted to help people become more educated and aware of how important physical and mental health really is. I find that most people have a negative mindset towards the gym instead of viewing it as working to be a better version of themselves. I want to let the person who is just starting their fitness journey know that if you just decide and dedicate, you can reach your goals!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a cruise down Easy Street! The biggest struggle I faced building this business was actually building the business. Personal Training is personal and people have to trust in you in order to let you help them get to where they want to be. I had to learn to build that trust with people and also build community within my business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I like to call what I do “training the mind to change the body”. I believe that everything we feel we can or can’t do starts with the mind. I incorporate mental health fitness into my training to not only build a stronger mindset in the gym but to build a stronger mindset in life in general. I’m known for creating that space for mental and physical growth and presenting positive energy in order to do so. I’m not a typical trainer who counts and depends on reps. I like to create relationships that will last a lifetime through personal development. I’m most proud of seeing my clients live healthier lifestyles and exude newfound confidence that they did not have in the past. Being able to give people a different outlook on prioritizing their health gives me great joy. Knowing that I could be saving someone’s life is the most rewarding part. What sets me aside from other trainers is that I do not consider clients as just regular clients. I look at them as family and take care of them as such. I provide my clients with every tool possible to educate themselves on living healthier lifestyles and still enjoy life doing so. I’ve recently created my own members only app for my clients to continue their education and physical fitness outside of the gym so that I can assist them with consistently improving.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is getting people to prioritize their mental and physical health. There are so many other things happening in life that we forget to actually prioritize taking care of ourselves. I want to help as many people as I can change their perspective on their mental and physical health and really get them to understand that it has an impact on having a better quality of life.
