Daily Inspiration: Meet Stanley Fletcher

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stanley Fletcher

Hi Stanley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
1999 a guy named Mason Gordon was developing a new sport named SmashBall at that time but the name would later change to SlamBall. I was a 19yr old kid looking to use my basketball talent professionally and through the sport of basketball Mason and I became friends and he became my boss as the owner of this sport. SlamBall got its first tv deal and aired on spike tv in 2001-2003. We made some noise with a fem million people running in to watch the sport each airing date.

SlamBall gained popularity but the business model changed and we needed up off the air. I moved to China to help develop the sport on the grassroots level and worked abroad for 7 years on the ground teaching, training, developing, managing and coaching this sport while it was only in China at this time.

Covid brought me back from China and in 2023 SlamBall was funded I. The US. As of then I have now stepped up from actually being one of the first 12 guys to ever play the sport to VP of Operations, Player Relations and Competitions while now adding on Marketing Director as well. We have a small team but wearing many hats for the company as we grow.

2023 we help our SlamBall season in Las Vegas and aired on ESPN and now looking to develop the sport internationally again as well. I’m at the forefront of the company and its plans to complete our mission to become the UFC of team sports.

Long journey and long road ahead but a lot of interesting milestones and learning how to create and develop a brand new sport. We’re actually one of the first to start a new sport out side of the traditional sports that the world has evolved with and became household sports. SlamBall is now alongside of the sports like the NBA, NGL, NHL and MMA.

My story within the SlamBall story is synonymous.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not smooth at all.

Starting a sport and having millions of people watch. Fast forward to when the executives wanted to change the direction of the sport and we refused leading to 5 years without a job in SlamBall while we were kicked off the air and no longer operating the sport.

Picking up my life in Los Angeles and moving to Shanghai. Learning the language, learning how to do business in China, having two kids in Shanghai, writing curriculum for the sport and finally getting our sport into university campuses and eventually having the SlamBall China IP unlisted on to the Chinese stock market to getting wiped out by COVID.

I got locked out of China during the COVID lockdown and my family was locked in China. We spent 4.5 months away from each other at that time till the boarders opened back up and me and my family reunited.

Lost everything Twice in the same year due to COVID, relocating back to the US, then getting divorced and lost everything again and rebuilding my life, working my way up in the film industry and getting my life back on track to being and a very happy and productive relationship and SlamBall making a comeback in the states.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Innovating traditional sports and helping to bring SlamBall to the world. Taking SlamBall as a player and changing the way the sport is played to learning and still learning every aspect how to do business here in the states and abroad.

Working my way up in the film industry to associate producing and documentary now on the nba app/tv and finding my own niche for production and producing. Using these skills and passion and pouring it into my podcast that’s now gaining some traction after the first year of publishing.
