Daily Inspiration: Meet Shak Syrn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shak Syrn.

Hi Shak, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been singing since I about 2 or 3, but I didn’t take music seriously until moved from my hometown in Alaska to LA for the first time at the age of 18, met a local producer on a dating app, and posted my first song on TikTok. I always knew I could sing but I never really knew that I could be an artist until I realized the manifesting quality TikTok has with its growth and popularity.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been smooth what’s so ever. I feel like with TikTok, you have constantly changed to keep up with the trends do try and stay relevant and as an artist, I can’t help but sit and think if I’m actually being authentic to myself by constantly having to cater to an algorithm. But whoever is meant to hear your music will naturally gravitate toward you.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I think all artists can agree that you have to take up with all kinds of interesting side jobs to be able to fund your art. At one point, I was in the military. Served for six years (wow, time goes by) at another time, I makeup artist working at Sephora. And now, what do you know? I am a young hot student who fishes for online sugar daddies late at night. You do what you got to do to support your dream.

What matters most to you? Why?
Family and friends matter to me most. Maybe it’s my people-pleasing libra sun talking, but I literally have written a song about every one of my friends and family. My mom and sister don’t think I have, but I have; it’s just not distributed yet. I love them so much and really would die for each and every one of them.
