Daily Inspiration: Meet Samuel Warburton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Warburton

Hi Samuel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I, Samuel Warburton, am originally from a small farm town in Preston, Idaho. Yes, that is the exact town in the movie Napoleon Dynamite. As a child I was always drawn to the arts. We had one very small theater in our town. I learned to dance, sing, and act there. Opportunities were limited due to being from such a small farm town. I was one of just a few boys who danced and sang in that town, but I always had big dreams.
During college I auditioned for the world premiere of the Pre-Broadway run of Aladdin the Broadway Musical, and I landed the role of Aladdin. This show premiered at Tuacahn Amphitheater in Southern Utah, and is now playing on Broadway in NYC. After this amazing opportunity, I knew I had to move to Los Angeles, CA to keep pursuing music and acting. I immediately enrolled at the Joanne Baron & DW Brown acting school in Santa Monica and finished their two year Meisner program. I’ve been in many film projects since then.
However, during COVID when the world shutdown, acting came to a halt due to the industry shutdowns. This is when my music career took a new turn, and I started recording music. I started first by recording a few familiar covers, and then I started writing my own music and recording them. I’ve since released eleven songs and four music videos. This fall I have an original song with a new music video coming. I’m also in the process of writing a feature film. I already wrote and shot the short film version of this feature called ‘Revelation’, and it has showed at several film festivals across the country. The feature will start pre-production later this year.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has most definitely not been a smooth road of being an artist. Anything in the arts always comes with many bumps and much rejection; however, I have always believed in myself. I knew I owed it to that little boy on that small farm to never give up. I’d say at least 95% of my journey has been rejection. And that 5% of success has come from when I picked myself up and gave it one more try. Also living in Los Angeles is very expensive. I was that starving artist for many years for sure when I moved to LA.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m known for my music and acting. I’m a recording artist and my music can be streamed on all music platforms. I’m a pop artist, but what sets me apart from other artists is that I have a big voice and love to hit a big note like the 90’s artists. I want my music to feel real and not over produced. I recently released a cover of the 80’s song “The Rose” originated by Bette Midler. That was the song my mom sang to me as a baby for my lullaby. For her 60th birthday, I recorded it for her as her gift. She was so emotional and touched. That is probably my proudest moment as an artist. – To record such a beautiful/meaningful song dedicated to my mom.
The short film I shot and the feature film I’m writing is a true story about my coming out journey and leaving the Mormon Church. This story has already touched so many individuals throughout our country who’ve had similar experiences of coming out to their family.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My greatest joys that bring me the most happiness are my family, my dog, and making music and film. My family has always been my ride or dies. With the amount of rejection I’ve received in my life, my family has always been my constant. My dog came into my life during 2020. He’s the silliest-goofiest dog I’ve ever met. I always say he’s my little soulmate – my guardian angel. I’d rather be home with him that anywhere else.
Music and film are what feed my soul. I know that my life’s purpose is to keep making good music and movies. My soul ignites when I’m creating.
