Today we’d like to introduce you to Sally Kim
Hi Sally, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my blog and Instagram back in 2015 as a creative outlet. I was a first-time mom and felt lost in motherhood. I needed to do something just for myself so I started posting on Instagram. It has evolved in so many ways over the years. My family and I have had so many amazing opportunities through content creation. I’ve met many wonderful people and created lasting memories. I am so grateful for every opportunity that we have had with brand partners, other content creators, and being able to share things on Instagram and my blog that has encouraged or helped others.
After the pandemic and as my daughter has gotten older, my content has shifted. I am still in the midst of pivoting and trying to figure out where I fit in online. I share less of my family and more about me as a mom and person who is trying to navigate this journey of life. I have always been a creative person so I am sharing more DIY content than before. I also recently got into junk journaling and have been including that in posts.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I first started sharing content online, being an influencer or content creator was relatively a new thing. People were posting online mostly because they just wanted to share not because they were going to make money or be offered anything for it. But as we shared, we were making money through paid ads with brands and were invited to events and experiences to share about them. I think it got harder once there were more people in the business because you have to evolve and change your content as your audience changes and as the algorithm changes. I think the main struggle for me is what value do I bring to my audience and wanting to share that and hoping that the social media algorithm will be kind and show it to those that need to see it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I used to post a lot of mommy and me content and a lot of Disney content. My daughter and I would often do Disneybounds (which is when you dress like the character using pieces of clothing you already own.) As my daughter has gotten older, I am in the process of privoting my content. This is what I am currently working towards– creating engaging and lighthearted content that blends creativity, personal growth and everyday life. I’m into junk journaling and sharing with others how to do it and embrace their creativity without the pressure to be perfect. I also share insights into aging gracefully and building better habits.
What sets me apart is my ability to connect with my audience authentically like we are old friends- I don’t take myself too seriously and I try to share things that are encouraging and relatable.
I am most proud of putting myself out there and sharing online. I was very shy when I was younger and am an introvert so 10 year old me would not believe that I’m posting on social media willingly. I am proud of the opportunities I’ve been a part of with brands like Michaels, Cricut, Disney, Dreamworks, and so many more. I’m so grateful.
How do you define success?
I define success as living a life that aligns with my values, being true to who I am, making a positive impact wherever I am and fulfilling my goals.
