Today we’d like to introduce you to Reece Schaberg.
Hi Reece, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As so many actors do, I started falling in love with acting when I was in high school, performing in musicals, plays, and anything I could get my hands on. Having a creative father, my twin brother, Brett Schaberg, and I created many YouTube sketches with his help (check out Schaybros, the videos still hold up).
After countless productions, I finally auditioned for the Acting Program at Western Michigan University. Before long, I had made the cut and was attending college to pursue my dream. Yes, it was a great experience, and the program they have there is top tier for anyone looking to perform, but it wasn’t all for me. I had a great and constructive conversation with Mark Daugherty, a good friend and now my acting coach, who had attended the same college and moved to LA after only a year of school. Funny enough, I found myself on the same track. I dropped out after my first year was over and headed to LA by the end of that summer. Having already signed with management, I quickly found myself with an Agent as well. Fast forward 4+ years filled with many auditions, callbacks, and bookings, I find myself thriving and enjoying the pursuits of a young actor.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
If by smooth road you mean I’m still alive and LA hasn’t eaten me whole, then yes, very smooth. In all seriousness, I feel very fortunate for all the opportunities that have come my way. You win some you lose some, but the best projects have always come when I decided to be totally patient and reminded myself to be grateful for what I’d already done. Droughts are gonna happen. So is the rainstorm.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So far, my most prominent credit is a co-star on CBS’s SWAT. Actors will know that a co-star is a major blessing when trying to make it. Otherwise, let’s be honest, you probably haven’t heard of me or what I’ve done. However, I have been blessed to work at Universal Studios Hollywood as a stunt performer in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter playing a Durmstrang student. Stunts are a strong point and a nice addition to my resumé. What I’m most proud of is being flown out to New York in 2018 for a callback with Ryan Murphy and his show The Politician. And yes, I have a twin. If that doesn’t set me apart, I don’t know what does.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like most is the diversity in environment. In a literal sense, the mountains and ocean aren’t things I grew up with, and those are two things I absolutely love. It’s also an experience getting to live in a big city, with so many different people, restaurants, and activities to keep you occupied at all times. What I like least… SMOG. And bad drivers.
