Daily Inspiration: Meet Rachel Lynch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Lynch.

Rachel Lynch

Hi Rachel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started documenting my world for the internet inside my metropolitan art school dormitory. That was nearly fifteen years ago.

I love writing – what I then thought of as “snap-fiction” or very short prose.

I also was doing a lot of photoshoots — I styled myself for every single one. I had a very particular style. I wouldn’t let anyone persuade me to stray from it.

I suppose I had something I wanted to portray – an image, a feeling, a story.

I haven’t stopped telling that story – Every week, my followers have new photos, words, expressions, and art from me.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not exactly. I struggled with an eating disorder for all of college and somewhat into my adult life. Anorexia – she’s a real beast.

I also struggled financially – being an artist isn’t exactly a blast into financial freedom.

Especially living in the city – rent is expensive, everything is expensive. But you’re so alive with the glory of a blossoming future, you don’t mind being poor. At least I didn’t.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m known for my work as an influencer on @ihateblonde and ihateblonde.com

I am known for my style, my lingerie collection, my devotion to city life and learning.

I’m not all about selling people things – never have been.

I want people to be better because they came across me – to have depth and the discipline to know who they are.

I haven’t followed the typical influencer pipeline; I’m an artist first and foremost, and I refuse to compromise my integrity in the name of some brand.

I’m also more recently known for my painting; I have my third gallery show coming up on June 1st.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My dad is my hero. He always believed in me and encouraged me to be my creative self. He got me sowing lessons, art school – he fostered the artist inside me. I think that’s all we really want. (as artists)
