Today we’d like to introduce you to Parris Noelle.
Hi Parris, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I knew on my first day of beauty school I wanted to own my own salon. I started in San Francisco and transferred to Sherman Oaks. I studied at Paul Mitchell and have taken extra courses at Vidal Sassoon. After I graduated, I was lucky enough to get a job in a salon right after and since then have had ideas for what I wanted my salon to be. Hair was something I never knew would mean so much to me and I wanted to learn as much as I could. As I started to work in salons my passion and love for hair grew each day. I take pride in the creativity I’m allowed in my job and I love all of my clients and am so grateful for this amazing industry.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I had some struggles in the beginning but I got through them because I knew I wanted to be a hairdresser. I knew this was for me and I wanted to push through and be as strong as I could to tackle on any obstacle no matter how big or small. There’s definitely times in every hairdresser’s career where you feel defeated or uninspired and it’s then that you really need to push on and know you can do it!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I truly believe color enhances the cut and cuts enhance the color so I love doing both. I love to create something that compliments the client in every way. I believe that both are necessary and both are beautiful and when done together it can really make the hair look its best! My salon was made to bring that creativity out to anyone who walks in. I took the time to make sure each beauty professional felt they had a creative space that worked for them and that every client would feel comfortable and taken care of. From every chair to every studio to the cafe the shop and even the color of the outside of our building all were thoroughly thought out to make sure we had a place that inspired us and was the most comfortable and functional. The cafe was made for people to feel taken care of. Sometimes clients are in our chairs for hours and can get hungry. I wanted them to feel like we had them taken care of and thought of! The shop was made to have a place for clients to go and treat themselves. It’s a true self-care day when entering Bungalow 21! The color of the building matters for hair photos which we all take. You need a neutral colored building and the grounds outside the salon to make sure nothing bounces back into our beautiful creations! If the ground is red and the building is green, it bounces natural with sunlight and that will all show up on our hair photos! I really took time to make sure all of these needs were taken care of. I am proud of my salon and how far I’ve come because it has been a JOURNEY but I always knew it would be worth it.
What are your plans for the future?
Right now, my plans are to keep my salon as positive and uplifting as possible. I want people to not give up on our industry no matter how hard the times maybe. I believe in the beauty industry and I want to see it grow even more because we make a difference. We can change someone’s day from a bad day to a good day we can help someone feel their best just by giving them some self-care and a listening ear. I plan on having more events and art shows at my salon as well but for now just keeping positivity and creativity flowing!
