Today we’d like to introduce you to Ninezz.
Hi Ninezz, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started music when I was around the age of 11/12. Inspired by dance musicians like avicci, I used to recreate songs on GarageBand on my iPad. I then continued to have production as a hobby, while also playing guitar, and continued with this until I was around 16. Which is when I went to college in the UK, to study music production – until COVID hit and we went into lockdown…
This then presented an opportunity for me to really lock in and focus on music, so I started a YouTube channel where I posted “type beats”. This offered me a route out of my Cafe job, and ended up landing me some pretty big songs. Artists such as Luciano from Germany heard these beats, and ended up releasing songs with them. Through this I landed cuts with D block Europe (uk artist) and more global cuts, which then presented an opportunity for me to focus on what really mattered to me, dance music…
I teased my first ever dance song on tiktok, and it went viral! we ended up signing it to Warner music, which was incredible for my first actual dance song. Of the back of this I then signed a publishing deal with a LA based company. Since then I have continued to release my dance music, building a really nice audience around the world, and in LA. Recently I just signed another record deal with a company in LA.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Lockdown presented a unique opportunity because although it gave me more time to work on my music, i had to completely shift the way of working with artists, moving to a more remote approach.
The pressure of switching from a producer to artist was tough also because it presented new challenges, such as having to create content and think about actually releasing music. Musicians now basically have to be content creators, which is a very different pursuit than just making music.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a music producer/artist. I am known for my chill dance records, but also my production on other peoples records. I have worked on records with Luciano, D Block Europe, Headie One, Nemzz, Kairo Keyz and more. I take pride in my versatility as I work on so many different types of music. I have a rap background, I release dance music, but I also write pop, indie and Kpop.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Fl studio (DAW), Splice, I loved Genius producer breakdown videos, I learnt a lot from them
