Daily Inspiration: Meet Miesha Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miesha Brown.

Miesha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Black Southern California (BSC) was built from a real place. I saw a gap that couldn’t be ignore. There were so many talented, creative, and driven Black individuals across Southern California, yet everything felt disconnected. People were searching for something real. A space where they could feel seen, safe, and genuinely connected, not just online, but in real life.
In the beginning, it started with connection. The community was built online, creating a space where people could introduce themselves, share what they do, and feel that they belong. From there, it naturally evolved into real-life experiences. The first gatherings brought that same energy into the room. People met for the first time, but it didn’t feel like strangers. It felt familiar. It felt like home. That was the moment I realized Black Southern California was bigger than a group. It was the beginning of a Village.
What began as a simple idea has grown into a thriving community of over 14,000 members across Southern California. My Staff and I have created experiences that bring people together in meaningful ways, from social events and Day Parties to business workshops, classes, networking spaces, and curated experiences designed to educate, connect, and inspire. Each experience is intentional, designed to create real connections that last beyond the moment.
We wanted to change the future of Black History by creating spaces where our community has access, opportunity, and the support to move beyond survival and truly thrive. It’s about being intentional in how we show up for one another, how we create access, and how we build something that lasts. The goal is to shift the mindset from simply getting by to building, growing, and creating legacy together.
As the vision grew, so did the responsibility to solve a deeper issue: ACCESS. It became clear that the gap was never a lack of talent or ambition, but a lack of connection to the right rooms, pathways, circles, and spaces that didn’t always feel within reach. There is an abundance of knowledge, power, talent, and history within our community, along with people who are willing and ready to support one another, yet many simply do not know where to begin or how to tap in. That is where we come in.
Black Southern California is intentionally building the bridge that connects people to those spaces. In our community, there is no gatekeeping. Information is shared, not withheld. We believe in open access, shared knowledge, and creating clear pathways so people can walk into rooms and opportunities they didn’t even know existed. There is enough success, opportunity, and room at the table for all of us to thrive, and we move with that mindset.
At the foundation of it all is how we show up for one another.
Here, We:
✨ Uplift and support Black-owned businesses
✨ Empower our youth and future leaders
✨ Honor our elders and ancestors
✨ Collaborate and build with like-minded people
✨ Create meaningful events, resources, classes, and experiences
✨ Reflect on our personal journeys that connect our past, present, and future.
We support families and individuals by creating spaces rooted in care and safety, connecting them to trusted support systems, and curating intentional, family-friendly experiences where multiple generations can come together, build meaningful relationships, and experience a true sense of family, love, and belonging.
We create access to spaces for individuals seeking career growth, mentorship, wellness, and personal development. For entrepreneurs and business owners, we open doors to networking, exposure, collaboration, business education, and hands-on classes.
For those just starting, we provide connections, tools, workshops, and access to a community that is willing to share knowledge and open doors. No one should feel lost trying to figure it out.
Beyond events and resources, this is about real connection across the entire region. No matter what county you live in, the goal is for you to know someone in every county. Someone you can call in an emergency, someone you can reach out to meet up with or attend events together, or someone you can collaborate with on opportunities and projects. That is what building a real Village looks like.
What makes Black Southern California different is the intention behind it. This is not just a platform or a social group. It is a community built on genuine connection, support, and culture. It is about creating spaces where people feel like they belong and where growth is supported across every stage of life and business. It carries a real Village energy, where people truly show up for each other. There is a place for everyone, across all ages and stages of life, to feel seen, supported, and connected.
The impact has been powerful to witness. People have built real friendships, collaborated on ideas, launched businesses, attended classes, gained knowledge, and walked into rooms they didn’t even know existed before. It is a reminder that when people are brought together with intention, something meaningful is created.
The vision is to expand this into a platform that continues to open doors, create access, and build long-term impact across Southern California and beyond. This is about building something people can step into, build on, and be proud to carry forward.
At the end of the day, this is bigger than us. This is about building something that brings people together, strengthens our community, and creates a legacy that will live on and grow through future generations. Something they can step into, build on, and be proud to carry forward.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, and honestly, I don’t think building something meaningful ever is.
As we’ve grown, one of the biggest challenges has been staying aligned with the vision. Not everyone sees it the same way or moves with the same intentions, and I’ve had to learn how to stand firm in what Black Southern California truly represents while setting clear boundaries and protecting the space we’re creating.
Another challenge has been growing at this level while still keeping everything intentional and personal. As beautiful as growth is, it requires structure, consistency, and stepping into a higher level of leadership. I’ve had to learn in real time, trust myself, and continue to evolve as the vision expands.
Funding has also been a real factor. There’s so much more we want to offer, from expanded programs and classes to additional resources and experiences for the community, and securing the right funding and partnerships to support that growth is an ongoing part of the journey.
At the same time, every challenge has reminded me why this matters. It’s pushed me to stay grounded, stay focused, and continue building something that genuinely serves our community.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an entrepreneur, community builder, event curator, and experience curator, and the founder of Black Southern California. My work is centered around bringing people together in real, intentional ways while incorporating and celebrating Black culture in everything we do. I specialize in creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, and connected, not just in the moment, but in a way that carries into their everyday lives.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management with minors in Business Administration and Marketing, and I’m currently expanding my education in Culinary Arts, Pastry Arts, and Food and Beverage Management. That background plays a big role in how I design and curate experiences that feel thoughtful, elevated, culturally rooted, and meaningful.
What I’m most proud of is the community we’ve built. Over 14,000 people and growing, but more importantly, the real relationships, collaborations, and opportunities that have come from it.
What sets me apart is the intention behind everything I do, along with my vision of bringing Black culture back together as one connected village, a one-stop space where we can come together as a family, learn, grow, access resources, circulate the Black dollar, and socialize in a space that feels comfortable, safe, and healthy. My goal is to see the Black Southern California Village move beyond survival mode and into a space rooted in growth, opportunity, and the ability to truly thrive.
Black Southern California wouldn’t be what it is without my amazing BSC team. They pour into this just as much as I do, supporting the vision every step of the way and helping bring it all to life.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next 5 to 10 years, I see Black Southern California growing into something much bigger than a community.
I see it becoming a true ecosystem. A space where connection, access, and opportunity all live in one place. Not just events, but consistent experiences, classes, workshops, and resources that people can tap into regularly. Something people don’t just visit, but something they’re a part of in their everyday life.
I also see BSC expanding its reach across the entire region in a deeper way. No matter what county you’re in, you’ll be able to tap in, build relationships, and feel connected. The goal is for people to have real connections everywhere, people they can call, meet up with, build with, and grow with.
Another big part of the vision is creating more structure around access. That looks like stronger partnerships, more opportunities for entrepreneurs and creatives, and more ways for people to walk into the right rooms without feeling like they have to figure everything out on their own.
At the same time, I see BSC continuing to grow into a space that supports people across every stage of life. From youth to adults to elders, from personal growth to business growth, it’s about building something that truly serves the whole community.
At the end of the day, I see Black Southern California becoming a real network, a real support system, and a real village that continues to create connection, access, and long-term impact across Southern California and beyond.
