Daily Inspiration: Meet Meg Zany

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg Zany.

Hi Meg, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Nearly six years ago, I left the corporate world as a recruiter selling humans legally to become a street artist, emblazoning the streets of Los Angeles illegally with my art.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I accepted my life’s purpose of being an artist, it didn’t come with a roadmap. A ton of trial and error had to happen. Many times I felt lost. Anytime that happened, I would lean harder into creating new art. I would set up travel dates to visit other street artist’s new states or counties to get my work up – talking to people in the subculture that I wanted to be a part of helped me find my footing. There will always push back from people or obstacles but most of the time, the obstacles push you to become a better YOU or help to find your true tribe of people.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My artwork often evokes an intergalactic childlike wonder in people. I started bringing my art to the streets of Los Angeles in February 2016. Since then, I have put hundreds of works in dozens of cities and countries. Many people refer to me as the female Banksy. I am widely known for my ‘Courage Has No Gender’ public service announcement. I also paint mermaids in vending machines paired with my iconic emblem that reads ‘Thieve the World, Dispense Only the Good.’ I’ve painted a little girl swinging from a drone. The list of works goes on but I’ll let you do your own deep dive.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
For me, creativity begets creativity. People inspire me but also, architecture, haute couture, and sacred geometry inspires me. I spend a ton of time hiking in nature and a ton of time urban exploring — I’m always absorbing my surroundings.
