Today we’d like to introduce you to Laila Romero.
Hi Laila, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a content creator for two accounts. @imwhatsfordinner- where I post about restaurants and events in Los Angeles & my personal scrapbook @imlailaromero mostly here in LA, but there as well – there is anywhere the next flight deal will take me.
It all started with my food account, When my kids were younger, I was a professional chef working long late hours and weekends. Once my kids started going to school I felt like I was missing out on so much and made the decision to leave my restaurant job.
I was a Yelp elite at the time and still am today. Being a Yelp elite I got to attended a lot of events and restaurant tastings and that’s kind of how I kept my foot in the culinary world. While I wasn’t working.
I met a lot of people along the way, foodie friends and connections that got me invited to a lot of places and that’s how I’m What’s for Dinner became more than Yelp reviews, it was video content for the Tastemade app (when it was around) and then a blog, and then an Instagram, and now A tiktok as well – I’m still kind of a newbie to it (I’m really late to the game)
But that whole time I was out doing the food thing I was also out doing the parent thing most times the kids got to go with me to a lot of the events and when we weren’t eating we were were out jam packing our weekends with fun. They used to call us the weekend warriors. I didn’t want to have pictures of the kids and myself on my food account. So I started a different Instagram account @imlailaromero. I didn’t intend that account to be anything but a place for me to share with my friends and family, what we were up to, but nothing ever goes how you intended it to go. (Haha!) So that kind of turned into a mom blog – outings to the zoo, theme parks, etc.
The boys are now teens, but we still do a lot together. We love traveling and dining out together still. We all love Halloween so that’s something we always do together as a family – The theme park haunts, sporting events and hopefully more concerts soon.
The account is mine so I mostly post pics of myself I don’t post too much of them of them to respect them, but we always get atleast one family picture to each location we travel to. I hope to the few followers I have that it inspires them to always make time for family and fun – making memories is all that really matters. No matter what age your kids are, find something that they like to do and do that with them.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve been lucky to be surrounded by such amazing people who support what I do – My husband and kids are amazing and my mom was there to babysit the kids when they couldn’t come along with us, so was my father-in-law.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I really like to post about places that are time-worthy, not insta-worthy. I post about vacations, destinations, hotels, events, cool small towns. I don’t want to get you out to a place just for a mural, that wouldn’t be worth your time, but if there’s more to do around where that mural is of course, I’ll include the mural along with the many other things to do nearby. I often dedicate a minimum of three posts to each place I travel to, so you can really get a feel for the destination.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Family. I love spending time together as a family. They are my main entourage always, anything I can plan for the four of us together is always top priority. I enjoy sharing experiences with them. It’s just what really makes me happy – quality time with them.
