Daily Inspiration: Meet L1Z

Today we’d like to introduce you to L1Z.

Hi L1Z, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a Taiwanese musician, currently based in West Hollywood. I come from a musical family in Taipei, Taiwan. My mom is an artist, when I was little she often took me to her shows. Being surrounded by music at such a young age, I always knew I wanted to be an artist too. This early exposure provided me with a solid understanding of the industry, the discipline needed for success, and a unique creative toolkit that has allowed me to shape my own career and subsequent success as a musician. However, the deeper meaning of being an artist has shifted for me throughout my childhood, teenage years, and adulthood as I’ve grown both as a person and as a musician. That journey is what I’m excited to share with you today.

From a young age, my career blossomed, I have appeared on some of the most widely known music TV shows in Taiwan and competitions in the US, including “The Great American Song Contest”, where I placed second within the R&B and Hip-Hop category, “Hope Star” where I placed fourth overall, and many more. I contributed to many renowned releases including “代替月亮喜歡你” by KK, which was awarded Top 3 at the KKBOX Music Awards, and to my own releases “若問” and “心肝仔”, which have amassed millions of views. I also performed at the New year festival “Super Star” at the Taipei Arena, which was a particularly important honor for me to perform in front of a sold-out 30,000 strong crowd. Indeed With my background in street dance, throughout these projects, I have had the privilege of becoming known for my unique blend of singing and dancing.

Hoping to further expand on my craft, I then moved to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music. That chapter was truly life-changing. It was at Berklee that I focused on expanding my skills as both an artist and as a producer and songwriter.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the hardest decisions I ever made was to fully pivot and chase my wildest dream of making Pop and R&B music. It meant letting go of the old version of myself. I knew I had to step out of my comfort zone and see beyond limitations in order to reach my highest potential and live a life with no regrets. My artist project, L1Z, became the space where I could express myself both emotionally and musically.

For me, being an artist used to be about performing and proving my resilience and talent. But as I grew into womanhood, I experienced heartbreak and healing that I now feel passionate about sharing. Along the way, I developed a unique sound as a producer and songwriter that I am excited to bring to the world. At first, it was scary to share my story with the world, to open up the vulnerable parts of me as an artist and songwriter, while also experimenting with new sounds as a producer. Over time, I realized that art is meant to be an honest expression of who an artist truly is, and that is exactly why I wanted to create music in the first place.

Indeed the positive reaction for my project has only fueled this passion of mine, seeing thousands of people around the world connect to my words means a lot. I believe that by not holding back my gift, I can continue to expand my audience and connect with more people who resonate with my story and my sound. Through my songs, I hope to be part of people’s journeys, to lift them up, and to help them feel confident and sassy.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a musician, a music artist, producer, and songwriter! My music is for anyone ready to unleash their inner baddie. Whether you’re lifting at the gym, driving and bumping the bass with the windows down, or hyping yourself up before therapy. If you want confidence, attitude, and sass, you’ll find it here! Moreover, what I love most about what I do is experimenting, blending sounds from different genres and cultures, and using synthesizers to shape something new and unexpected.

With my last release, Red Light, I had so much fun chopping up beats, taking smooth R&B melodies and layering them with bubblegum synths and drill drums. My next single, Daddy Issues, feels really special to me. It doesn’t just tell my story, the sonic is also truly authentic to me. The mix of soft, high vocals floating over a deep, metallic trap R&B beat creates a contrast that feels sexy and full of aura, which is what makes it so exciting.

So far, my music as L1Z has reached over 215K streams and has been praised by many important people and fans in the industry, and honestly, that means the world to me. But this project is one of many that I am proud of and I’m so excited about what I’m creating right now, and I can’t wait to share more of it with you!

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
