Hi Katricia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From an early age, I was deeply inspired by my mother’s relentless work ethic and success in the import/export business. Accompanying her on numerous trips, I witnessed firsthand the extensive network she built and the profound respect she garnered as a businesswoman. This exposure ignited my ambition to attain a similar level of influence and success.

Throughout my career, I held various positions that provided financial stability and comfort. However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic presented an unexpected opportunity for introspection and exploration. With ample time at my disposal, I began brainstorming potential business ventures that aligned with my aspirations. I conducted thorough research into several industries, including laundromats, car washes, hair salons, event spaces, liquor stores, and restaurants. Each of these sectors intrigued me, and I remain open to pursuing them when the timing aligns with my goals.

Despite these considerations, I remained in my comfort zone until early 2021, when I faced an unforeseen job loss. This abrupt change led to a period of introspection and concern, especially as a parent to a seven-year-old with significant responsibilities. After a two-week period of reflection, I seized an opportunity to work as a Production Designer on a movie set. This role was exhilarating, allowing me to collaborate with talented actors and professionals, many of whom have become cherished friends. However, recognizing the temporary nature of this position, I sought a more sustainable plan.

I reached out to a close friend and realtor, expressing my intent to invest in a multi-family property promptly. By June 2021, we secured a closing date, and by September, the rental income had recouped my initial investment, providing a financial cushion and the flexibility to deliberate on future ventures.

My passion for makeup artistry dates back to 2009, though I had not pursued it professionally until 2022, when I committed to it full-time. This decision led to global travel and collaborations with some of the most remarkable individuals in the industry. The positive feedback from my bridal clients inspired me to expand my services. In 2024, I established a comprehensive beauty parlor offering a range of services, including nails, lashes, brows, waxing, and facials—a true one-stop shop for beauty needs.

Recently, I have diversified my professional endeavors to include event planning and content creation. These roles have been immensely rewarding, allowing me to leverage my multifaceted passions and skills to create memorable experiences and engaging content.

Reflecting on this journey, each challenge and opportunity has been instrumental in shaping the dynamic and fulfilling career I enjoy today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Embarking on my entrepreneurial journey has been both rewarding and fraught with challenges. Transitioning from stable employment to full-time entrepreneurship required a significant mindset shift, demanding resilience and adaptability.

Establishing a beauty parlor presented its own set of hurdles. The beauty industry is highly competitive, with new trends and products emerging rapidly. Staying relevant necessitates continuous learning and adaptation. Additionally, managing operational aspects such as staffing, inventory, and customer satisfaction requires meticulous attention to detail. Financial management is crucial, as initial investments can be substantial, and profitability may not be immediate.

Balancing entrepreneurship with parenting and frequent work-related travel adds another layer of complexity. Managing a business while ensuring quality time with my child requires meticulous planning and adaptability. Frequent travel can disrupt family routines, making it essential to maintain open communication and establish consistent schedules. However, I am fortunate to have an incredible support system—a ‘village’ of family members—who provide invaluable assistance and emotional support. My mother’s unwavering support, in particular, has been instrumental in navigating the complexities of work and family life, allowing me to pursue my professional passions while ensuring my child’s well-being.

Despite these challenges, each obstacle has served as a learning opportunity, strengthening my resolve and commitment to my entrepreneurial endeavors.

As a multifaceted entrepreneur, I have developed a diverse career that encompasses several roles:

Professional Makeup Artist: Since 2009, I have been dedicated to the art of makeup, collaborating with a wide array of clients, including brides and industry professionals. My commitment to enhancing natural beauty and providing personalized services has been a cornerstone of my practice. 

Event Planner: Expanding my creative pursuits, I ventured into event planning, where I manage all aspects of organizing events, from selecting venues and coordinating vendors to overseeing event logistics and ensuring client satisfaction. This role allows me to craft memorable experiences that align with clients’ visions and objectives. 

Content Creator: In addition to event planning, I engage in content creation, developing engaging materials such as articles, videos, and social media posts to promote events and services. This endeavor enables me to connect with a broader audience and showcase my expertise across various platforms. 

Proudest Achievements:
• Empowering Clients: Through my makeup artistry and event planning services, I have had the privilege of empowering clients, boosting their confidence, and contributing to their special moments.
• Entrepreneurial Growth: Successfully transitioning from stable employment to establishing and managing thriving ventures stands as a testament to my resilience and dedication.

My entrepreneurial journey has been profoundly influenced by the unwavering support of my family and close friends. While I haven’t had formal mentors, these individuals have been instrumental in my personal and professional growth.

Family Support:
• Cousin Betty: Serving as my personal therapist, Betty has been a constant source of emotional support, helping me navigate life’s challenges. Family support is known to enhance self-worth and mental health, contributing to overall well-being. 
• Cousin Gregory: As a lawyer, Gregory provides invaluable legal advice, ensuring my business operations remain compliant and protected. Such practical assistance from family members can significantly ease the complexities of entrepreneurship. 

Close Friends:
• Best Friend Sasha and Other Close Friends: Sasha, along with a few other close friends, has played a major role in helping me navigate through entrepreneurship, offering support and guidance. Having a strong support system is crucial for personal growth and managing the demands of a business. 

Collectively, these individuals have been my cheerleaders and advocates, each playing a unique role in my journey. Their support has been a cornerstone of my achievements, and I am deeply grateful for their contributions.
