Daily Inspiration: Meet IRENE ESCAMILLA

Today we’d like to introduce you to IRENE ESCAMILLA.

Hi IRENE, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My passion in this life is to capture my dreams and artistic emotions in color and on a canvas. I mainly do acrylic paintings, as my oil painting skills are still in progress. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve enjoyed drawing, coloring, and then began painting. I am self-taught and have acquired all my knowledge and skills through continuous practice. I began my first brush strokes when my husband, who believed in my natural talent as an artist, gifted me my first painting kit. Since then with the help of tutorial videos on YouTube and self practice, I continued developing and learning my skills. My greatest inspiration are the beautiful landscapes that nature gives us, adorned with beautiful birds and different animals.

I promote my art by Instagram, my website and by word of mouth. In September, I displayed my art in my first gallery presentation in the Autumn Art Show at the Cypress Community Center. One of my paintings won 3rd place and I sold another painting. I continue to receive special requests for more paintings. I am currently a part of the Cypress Art League and continue to take painting requests.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the struggles I feel is not having enough time to paint because I still work full time. As a small business owner, a challenge would be not having the right promotion and marketing for my business. That is something I am working on! As an independent business owner, I experience bumps on the road but I will continue to work hard to reach a level of professional artist.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve worked in the financial industry for more than 20 years but painting is my real passion. I always try to do my best in everything I do and I enjoy connecting with customers too. I am transitioning to work less hours, so I can paint and showcase my work more often. Something that sets me apart as an artist is my attention to detail in my work. I am proud of myself for having the courage in pursuing the arts and believing in my natural talent. My dream is to paint all I want and to live off my dream!

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I believe luck plays the role you want to see. I have carried myself with optimism throughout my journey. Since I decided to begin painting more consistently and begin exposing my art work, I keep receiving special requests. It took me more than 5 yrs to find out ways to expose my work. I consider myself very blessed and grateful for how my hard work is paying off now.
